Purchased this as it was paired as "recommended" with Goldengulf New Model Super Bright Water proof Cree LED Diving Torch Flashlight. In the water, it's fine, but the retract system can not handle the weight of the Goldengulf New Model Super Bright Water proof Cree LED Diving Torch Flashlight when not in the water. The weight of the flashlight will weigh down the retractor and you must hold it to keep the retractor from extending due to the weight of the flashlight. I over came this be securing the this retractor to a pocket in my BCD, so I could keep the flashlight in the BCD pocket, zipped up, attached to the retractor, until down, then, I could use the flash light as needed, connected to the retractor, and just drop it back into the BCD pocket when not using it.

Buy the larger size, this one is too small to be useful
I love the gear keeper line, but this particular size it too small to be useful for just about anything.I was planning to use it for my dive slate, but it can't even hold that without drooping.The clip is very small as well. Once you attach it to the D ring on your BCD, it is nearly impossible to remove.Do yourself a favor and buy one of the larger sizes. For example, the small flashlight model. That one is perfect.It will hold the PADI Adventures in Diving 'not quite a slate' that comes with your AOW book, but that's about it.I honestly don't know what I'll end up using it for, and I couldn't even give it to the divemaster as a tip.If anyone knows what this can be used for, please leave a comment.

Only for the smallest of items
This item really is for the lightest of items. It will not hold a GoPro out of the water as the weight will drag it down. Use it for whistles, a very small slate, pencil, small compass. It will not hold your computer/console etc. Get the bigger versions of this(which ARE good). It does seems sturdy and reliable for small items and the build quality is good.Helpful? I have several of these. One of the keepers' tension lessened a little. It was the one on my camera so I probably extended it and retracted it thousands of times. It still works, just not as well. Overall, I have zero complaints about them.

Not many products out there like this meant for diving. I doubled up on some of my more expensive gear. Lights, cameras, etc. It helps keep it from falling on shore and adds some protection against failure. They seem to work quite well

These are VERY light duty
I wouldn't recommend using these for anything heavier than a pencil. I have retractors on my backup knife and flashlight. They are both too heavy for this retractor and it pulls all the way out. Pretty useless.

Must-have for divers!!
Love this for diving... when lobstering or spear fishing you always find your hands tied up grabbing your bag or adjsuting boyancy etc. And i can now just let go of my light or tickle stick and know its right by my side when i need it again. Wish i had another one!Edit: mine broke...

Hope your legs are longer than 36"
Bought this for the Q/C Connector. It has everything I need but unfortunately the 36" extension is too long for me (5'3). Although the Spectra/Nylon Line has a 40 lb. Breaking stregth, the lightweight traction coil keeps dropping my 8-key work ring to the ground. Darn. I hope your legs are longer than 36".

Cb mic to heavy
Bought it for holding my CB mic. I am unhappy because it does not support the weight of the mic but that's my fault for ordering the small one. Otherwise I'm sure its GTG. Works as advertised

Too small
This gear keeper is a whole lot smaller than expected. Searching for a keeper for my radio mic and this didn’t support it even a little bit.

Must read discription only use I have is for whistle. It states for slate pencil it means pencil only must say works well for whistle
