I’ll Tell You a Tale: An Anthology (The J. Frank Dobie Paperback Library)

I just discovered J Frank Dobie this last year and find his stories so enjoyable. Entertaining, thoughtful, funny, and even educational. (Learned about cattle drives and cowboy life as it really was.) This is my favorite volume of the works I've read so far. I like the variety of selections in this book. I have given it as a gift and it was well-received.

Franks Dobie's world is going, going.... in this anthology he looks back, and helps us look back too, into a world and times within which Frank and some others grew sage — not merely broadly and deeply informed, but wise. this is a very rewarding read, across a wide field of view, of the lives of critters and humans beyond the city, beyond the town, beyond the pale....I recommend also Dobie's The Longhorns and The Mustangs and The Voice of the Coyote.

A great easy read filled with many facts one doesn't hear often.

A good read by a great and famous author. It wasn't as much a book of first-hand accounts of the period as I had hoped, but is excellent at capturing the elements of the times chosen by the author.
