When it’s cold, uncomfortable and spitting sideways on the job site, you need a jacket that punches above its weight. Trust us, the Mingus is that one. Built with burly 12-ounce Super Duck material, our bomber survives the grittiest tasks on the do-now list. A Sherpa interior traps body heat on cold-start days while a surface DWR coating sheds sleet, snow, spray or drizzle, even after multiple mandatory washings. A three-panel hood flips up fast but hangs with peripheral visibility when taking a lay of the land or looking sideways at your crew.

Real alternative to Carhartt
Having owned a Walls "super duck coat" and loving its quality and warmth, i thought id try this jacket for more active work duties. If you have not owned any Walls outerwear i can tell you from experience that their duck outer shell is very soft and broken in compared to the big C brand. Not only is it broken in, but is really durable. The zipper is adequate and functions as it should. The inner sherpa lining is very soft and comfortable as well. This jacket is comparable to the Big C "active jackets" without the hefty price tag and unusual large sizing chart. This jacket is true to size and just pleasurable to wear while working in my freezing warehouse job. This jacket has a relaxed fit and can accommodate layers of cloths just fine. I wouldn't classify this jacket as an "arctic" or "extremes" jacket, as you would want a poly-fill inner lining with nylon, like the walls super duck or the Big C arctic lineup. Either way this jacket is perfect for northeast Ohio winters where we see 45"+ snow and temps -0 every year. Just a great quality jacket that is a true alternative to the big C brand, who's quality suffered since most of their products are foreign made now a days.Buy this jacket with confidence, as Walls has always been the unsung hero of outdoor work wear. Their duck coats and jackets are made as equal as the big C, but priced without all the inflation form huge marketing and "stylish trends"

Fantastic coat
I’ve worn the big “c” brand for years. It was very similar to this one and I loved it. They discontinued that one and listed a replacement that was supposed to be pretty much the same. I ordered it and tried to like it but it fell way short. They replaced the Sherpa lining with a lighter fleece and the outer fabric was much different. I decided to give this one a try and it is excellent. Well made, comfortable, and has the heavier Sherpa type lining that I really missed. I’m 6’ 3” and about 190 lbs. I ordered the large tall as I always have and the fit is perfect. I think I’ve found a new favorite.

Quite possibly the warmest coat I’ve ever owned
I’m a 1st year electrician apprentice, and a significant portion of my work is outdoors. There have been times when I’ve had to take the coat off because exertion had that much heat built up inside. Due to it just recently arriving, I cannot comment on its long-term durability, but can say it feels incredibly sturdy. I’d be surprised if it started coming unraveled anytime soon.

Absolutely stellar!
This jacket is absolutely amazing! The lining is beautiful. The number of pockets is incredible and that the pockets are lined is just wonderful! The quality of the outer fabric is outstanding! I’ve been looking for a coat like this for sometime as a gift. I’m a big Carhartt fan, but this coat does them. I thought it was a little pricey, but now that I’ve received it and looked at it. It’s well worth every penny.I highly recommend it!

Worth the money and doesn't sacrifice anything.
Like many i don't care about brand, I desire to obtain my money's worth. This jacket has 1 chest pocket not found on c hart, cheaper then c hart, has sherpa material inside (c hart does not). Aside from that, I purchased mine for work. I've only had it a few days but I like it so far. The tight cuffs are huge plus for locking in heat.Regarding fitment, this is what I'll say. If your 5'10-6'0 145-160lbs, the medium and large is practically the same. If you intended to wearjacket zipped closed without a hoodie, go medium. It will fit your waist snug so no heat will escape that way. It will sit right on your upper hip or right on you belt. I opted not to go this route because when I sat down with the medium, I could feel the back of the jacket above my belt/pants waist and it drove me nuts. The medium is not tight on your shoulders nor torso so you can still work it in. I opted for the large because if I wear this, it will be below 35 degrees and ill have a hoodie so I wanted the extra room to have a thick layer under the jacket if need be. The large touches the pockets on my pants and I have about 1.5-2" past my belt which helps it not ride up when you sit/squat/bend over.Things I would improve are the following: the exterior chest pocket either needs a large zipper tag or I'd prefer no zipper at all. If you wear this jack you probably wear gloves & the ambient temp is low. I dont want to remove my gloves to access my pockets. Secondly, the main zipper tag, too small again. Additionally, I wouldn't be upset if there more pockets on the inside. In conclusion, the jacket is comfortable, spacious for work purpose, & warm; price is fair, & fitment is good. Why not a 5 star, simply nothing is perfect and I've yet to put this thing through any abuse.
