Chopin: Polonaises

Let me just come at this from an angle of someone who loves classical music but has no clue about musical theory or lessons in any instruments since I was 12. I know what I like and my ear is not completely uncultured. I think this is a magnificent recording. Mozart and Chopin are my two favorite composers so I will come down harder on performances I don't like as much. Pollini executes with masterful skill and I think injects that sense of emotion Chopin intended. For those who say there is too much passion or feeling within music then they've failed to see it's main point. All within reason though. You can't go wrong with this recording in my opinion. That ultimately is for you to decide though.

I liked this CD but it did not have the one Polonaise I was looking for. There was no way I could access this information although I tried to see if the Grand Polonaise in E Flat was included.

Two problems: 1. Cd case cracked. 2. More importantly, this appears to be a second edition of some sort. I have an original CD case and liner notes already and I bought this item just to replace the CD I had which was lost. The "new" liner notes are different (and not as good) as the original and the sound is somewhat muted compared to my old original. So, back to Amazon to see if I can find the original. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

Many years ago, like 30 or more, I have seen a Chopin's life movie where the actor plays (not really) one of these polonaises. Chopin is very passionate in this and it is like I can feel that.

I love this CD of polonaises. Maurizio Pollini is one of the most eminent pianists of our time. Having all seven of the pieces on a single CD is great.

Pollini sets a standard for performing Chopin's music that others have not been able to achieve. Pollini gives great feeling to Chopin's music. I

I'm not an expert, but I know what I like. I've been collecting various interpretations of the Opus 53 A flat Major Polonaise ('Heroic') and had up until now though the Martha Argerich 'Legendary 1965 Recording' to be the best. Maurizio Pollini's interpretation is - to my mind - better. I'm afraid that I mostly go straight to Track 6, but I'm sure the others will grow on me in time. This is not a high price to pay for an excellent CD. Well recommended. Just buy it!

Pollini è un pezzo di storia pianistica italiana, ha inciso tantissimo per una grande casa discografica, è conosciuto a livello mondiale e continua a tenere alto il blasone e la tradizione della scuola Italiana.Allievo di Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Pollini è una garanzia per il suo approccio filologico, e quel che mi ha colpito di più in queste polacche di Chopin è la forza della sua mano sinistra, un pestare dei tasti molto percussivo, ma è una mia impressione è null'altro.Incisione ottima, pianoforte naturale e ben bilanciato.

Gibt es - leidenschaftliche Kühle? Ich kann mich den beiden fachkundigen Rezensenten nur bescheiden anschließen. Kenne die Pollini LPs aus meiner Jugend und bin froh, seine Interpretation wieder hören zu können, die altbekannte A-Dur-Polonaise empfinde ich als die absolute Wohltat, immer noch unerreicht. Man muß aber bedenken, dies ist eine ADD aus 1976 - 1998 "remastert"?, wovon ich nicht viel merke. Die Enttäuschung über Klangqualität muß man wegstecken.

May be a bit old-fashioned for some, taking it from the early 70's style recordings, I reckon Pollini's fingers certainly did a good flow there and back over the keyboard.Enjoy!
