Creative, Whimsical Knitting at Its Best
To me, tea cosies represent the ultimate in creative, whimsical knitting. That's why I have so many tea cosy pattern books in my knitting book collection, even though I don't drink much tea and don't need tea cosies. These books are simply delightful to look at, and it's always fun to see what new things the designers have come up with.Loani Prior's REALLY WILD TEA COSIES does not disappoint! It includes 21 complete tea cosy patterns (2 crocheted, 2 made from recycled sweaters, and 17 knitted or knitted with some crocheted decorative parts). The cosy on the book cover is knitted. Although I'm primarily a knitter, my favorite is the crocheted "Coral Punk" cosy that is inspired by the tubes of a coral reef. From the knitted cosies, my favorite is "Pablo", a yellow cube covered with orange bobble balls that is inspired by cubism. The cosies with pompoms and looped skirts are also a lot of fun.The book has instructions for knitting in the round on two circular needles, and suggestions for sizing the cosies to fit particular teapots. The last part of the book is devoted to instructions for decorative elements: a rose, leaves, a trumpet flower, nuts, cupcakes, felted balls, citrus fruit, and i-cord.Because the book has beautiful colored photos, is amusing to leaf through, and expresses so many creative ideas, I rate it at 5 stars. A couple of other good tea cosy pattern books are this author's previous book, Wild Tea Cosies , and a book from a British publisher, Tea Cozies (Cozy) .

Have Fun Knitting Artistic Tea Cozies

Inspiring!
I used to think stuff like this was really crazy, and when I started knitting I could not even understand why anyone would make a tea cozy, but this book is very inspiring. I have not knitted one of these yet though, because the patterns say small med large but not how many oz is the tea pot. I guess I am American and maybe do not drink enough tea so I do not know what is standard "small" "med" and "large". I also do not know anyone I could gift them to if they did not fit my tea pot LOL! The tea cosies are as follows:The JesterCoral PUnkGarden PartyPabloBells & MexicansElfinNanna DeluxeStill lifeModern PrimitiveGrecian LovelyLoopy LouRoger RampantPedro de la PntaloonSleeveless in SeattleUp in ArmsMongolian Sock WarriorsLittle Miss CupcakePot Sock Frock and PetticoatHanky PankyOde to the LimeShort Black with TwoMakes me want to have an all white kitchen with a white cupboard with glass outer shelves in which I could display the entire collection! Thank you, Loani, for publishing this delightful collection! Please purchase this everyone! This is better than a collection of Monet prints to me!

I LOVE THESE TEA COSIES!!
I collect tea pots and have knit a cosy for each one. Some are strangely shaped so I design the cosies myself. But I have all of the tea cosy books that I know of from Ms. Prior and use them more than any other author (and I have lots). I especially enjoy the "feral" ones with feathers. I made a quilted lining and my tea stays steaming hot for the largest teapots. Long live tea cosies!!

I love the patterns and they are so much fun to make! I get compliments all the time on my tea cosies, and they really keep the pot hot for a long time! I had challenges reading the first pattern I was making, but reached out to the author through Ravelry.com, and she was very responsive!

Amazingly creative!
Loani Prior is an outstanding, imaginative creator even if you never wanted to own a teapot. And her students seem to benefit from her classes. Their designs are amazing, too. Her cozies could be hats, free standing sculpture, and her ideas will enrich your work!

Not for six-cup pots
I have been knitting since I was five, a long time ago. I bought this book because I loved the pictures I saw of the finished products. What the pictures didn't tell me, but the text does, is that none of these patterns are designed for a six-cup pot. Two-, three- and some four-cup pots. But no six cup. Not one. Nor is there any information on how to enlarge or reduce the patterns to fit a different sized teapot. I suppose that is because there are so many variables that the book would be taken up with all the possible changes. It is a shame, because the instructions are clear, although one needs to actually make the patterns to really tell. The designs are adorable. Whimsical and creative. Truly wild. Even parts of these designs would make fantastic tea cosies. But if you are unsure of yourself in knitting and don't use small teapots, get another book. If you are comfortable with making changes to the pattern, or if you only use small teapots, go for it.Would I have gotten this book if I had known the patterns are only for small pots? I don't know. I took one star off for no 6 cup pots, the most common size of pot, and one star off for nothing about making changes to the size after it's emphasized that the shape, (and presumably the size) of the pot is important. Nonetheless, I love the book.

Easier than they look
Obviously you need to be a reasonably experienced knitter / crocheter but they are really easy. I had to learn knitting in the round - which was new to me but I now love it - so much easier to knit on the flexible needles is much better than the rigid needles.Only one comment I would make - the number of stitches is not always shown and this can be a bit confusing - not sure you have increased/ decreased accurately. But that is a minor thing.I have made 4 of the tea cosies already! You know when you get a book like this and you think I will try and do everything - I sometimes end up not doing any of them - well 4 so far and it has only been in my possession for 3 months! Currently doing the Grecian Lovely - love the contrast of Black and Purple - and made it in 3 days!!Excellent book!

Fantastic ideas and creative patterns - I haven't made any yet but will be cracking on with them soon. My nana's birthday is coming up and it's going to make a great present.

Good Value
Liked the price and the quality of the book but disliked the cigarette smoke odour which emanated from it. Bagged it up on a tray of baking soda which solved the problem.
