Like Night and Day!
Many people use that phrase metaphorically, but these curtains can literally turn day into night. If you're considering these curtains, it's because you want to block external light from entering your room, and that's exactly what these curtains do. Is it 99.9%? Probably not, but it's close enough. And here's the other thing you have to realize:When you're shopping for room darkening curtains, even if you happen to find curtains that manage to block 100% of the light out, you will still have some light the seeps in around the top, bottom, and to a trivial extent, the sides.Since these curtains weave through the curtain rod, there are gaps that are left at both the top and the bottom, and the light that seeps through around these gaps is much more than the light that manages to penetrate through the curtains themselves. But even with the little bit that seeps through the gaps -- and the even smaller amount of light that penetrates the curtains -- they still do an *extremely* good job of blocking the light. Especially when compared to standard curtains, it will seem like 99.9%.I bought two sets (of the 63" length) for each of our boys' bedrooms, and I couldn't believe the difference. So we bought a set for our bedroom, and with the larger size, the difference was even more noticeable. I had a hard time finding my way around the room, even in the middle of a sunny day.One thing I would suggest, seeing the difference between the 63" and 84" lengths: If you have 63" windows like we do, and if you're installing new curtain rods, I would recommend going with the 84" length over the 63", and installing the rods about two (or more) inches above the window, especially if you're trying to block the most light possible. This will give you good coverage at the top and great coverage at the bottom, and help prevent the light seeping through the top/bottom like I mentioned above. The 63" ones still work amazingly well, but if you really want it as dark as reasonably possible and don't mind the longer curtains, you will get closer with the 84" ones and installing like this.A second suggestion, regardless of the length -- and this may seem like a no-brainer for some -- but when you are weaving the curtains through the rod, do it such that the edge of the curtain points toward the wall, vs. the other way where the edge points inward. This will allow the edge to rest against the wall, preventing almost all of the light from seeping through the sides.Bottom line, these curtains block almost all of the light, especially if installed optimally. They may not block 100% (or even 99.9%), but if you need absolute darkness in order to be able to sleep, then I would suggest either boarding up your windows, or wearing a sleep mask . I just think you will have a hard time finding another curtain that blocks light as well as these do.

Great curtains. Functional, but not quite as advertised. Read on for more. Not a "bad" product, though.
I've taken one star off for inaccurate product advertising. These look great on my windows. The tops of my window flange (inside) is about a couple of inches above this product's vertical measurement, which is just about perfect. Nothing's touching the floor, but at the same time, the curtains don't look too short. I'd ordered two packs of these for two windows, and both appeared to be about the same length, and width. After a run through the dryer, most of the hard creases were gone, and what few remained should fall out on their own after a few days of hanging.Hanging grommet curtains is far simpler than trying to hang old school curtains with those needle hooks, or tabs. Just slip the rings onto the rod, and you're done. So, ok. Here's why I took away one star. Light blocking is NOT 99 percent, or even anywhere close to that, by any stretch of the imagination. It's more like 80, to 85 percent. If you have a set of mini blinds, or a privacy liner in place, then yeh, it gets a little darker, but still not total 98 or 99 percent light blocking. However, I should point out, my curtains are light coloured, so maybe darker ones will actually provide light blocking closer to the advertised percentage. Don't know, really. The fabric is thick enough you can hold it between your self, and a bright light source, and not see the light source through it, but yeh, you'll see "some" light glow through. But, that's not enough to wake a shift worker when the sun shines on the window.Noise reduction is fairly insignificant in the bass, and mid range of frequencies. Certainly, in the upper end of the high frequency spectrum, most of that noise is blocked out, to some extent, but yeh, you're still going to hear your neighbors gabbing, and laughing, along with their stereo, or the inconsiderate leaf blower user, or the occasional aircraft, and cars going by. So, NO it's not soundproofing material. For that, you'd need six inches of foam, or fiberglass batting, and other stuff that costs way more than this to totally block sound.ON the thermal insulating side, NO! It will NOT insulate from the bitter cold, or heat. However, it will block those minor chills that come through the windows in the dead of winter. The fabric is thick enough to help with that, to some small extent. For drapes that "REALLY" insulate against more noise, cold, and light intrusion, you'd need the kind of drapes hotels use, which have a thick batting behind them, as well as denser fabric. For home use, on a budget, these will certainly do nicely from an esthetic standpoint, as well as for most basic sleep needs. I have noticed, when cars turn the corner near my house, they don't let in nearly as much headlight pollution as my older curtains did. All, in all, I'll still use this product, but I think the manufacturer, sellers could stand to be a wee bit more honest. It certainly wouldn't hurt for Amazon to start independent testing of products with the claims this product carries.OH, the tie-backs having been included was a nice touch.

Warm Thermal Coverage In Layers
I was looking for curtains that would create a good, warm, thermal barrier on my 104width×90height windows, against Canada's winter. I easily installed a pair of these curtains on my existing rod, behind my lighter "summer pair". They made a huge difference in the warmth of the room immediately. Very happy with them and I do highly recommend them to anyone looking for warmth in the winter. I'll try them in the summer heat and report back.
