Saint Helena and the True Cross (Vision Books)

This review is written by my eldest daughter (age 6):The book is about St. Helena and her son, Emperor Constantine. The book covers a large time period, from her relationship with Constantius to her death. I liked it when St. Helena found the true cross. There were some parts that made me sad. I would recommend the book to people that enjoy learning about saints and history.Notes from myself (her mother):We utilized this book as a read aloud. My daughter was enthralled with the story. My daughter uses TAN’s The Story of Civilization as her history text and we try to supplement with living history books. This one falls right in between Volume 1 & 2. It was exactly what we were looking for! She was so excited to read about Constantine's family life as a boy and to hear different historical figures’ conversion stories was very inspiring. There were times when the book got a little deep into battle plots (not my interest area), but she worked incredibly hard to understand where they were and what was happening. That being said, it was probably at a level above her comprehension and I’m sure she will enjoy rereading it in a few years. I am looking forward to rereading it with our younger children as they get older. St. Helena left a lasting impression on us both.

Well written historical fiction about finding the true cross of Christ. Easy reading for all ages with authentic verifiable historical data . Recommended !

Ok for a child to understand. Too boring for a child to read. I was looking for more facts and documentary type book. My mistake.

I am already a Christian but I love this book for it is moving and Helena is the most amazing historical workman I have ever heard of

It truly follows up well to the living wood. It is short enough to read in a day. It is very articulate
