There is lots to like about this reel. It is made out of heavy gauge metal and is stout. It has very nice real bearings not lame plastic ones like other brands use in this size range. The drag brake is also superior to brands like Cox for easy of use. The reel spins freely and is true when spinning.Then main issue that cost it some stars was the paint finish. These are E coated and then the final finish is sprayed on over that. Mine had missed spots like the back of the handle and the base was a runny bubbly mess. Right out of the box there were places where the top coat had chipped off and the bottom was scratched up. I contacted Hannay who did not want to talk to me and referred me back to where I bought it. They were willing to replace it so they opened another one they had and it had the exact same issues. I think the final finish on these is applied when they are fully assembled and that they are sprayed with the base down sitting on something instead of hung up. This would be a 5 star review if not for the finish.Another small mistake that is trivial is the nut that locates the drag brake is the wrong style so the nylock portion does not engage the thread. No big deal it just needs a nylock jamb nut not a regular one.If you search for images of this reel you will find two different bases for them. The other has a sleek one pieice welded base without the external mounting flanges and I wish that was the version you could order here. The one here is a 3 piece base held together with 3 pop rivets on each side.
