Part biography, part self-help ... ALL loving and glorious.
Part biography, part self-help ... ALL loving and glorious. In the beginning, there was the Drag Movement, and The Ms. Visage was Right There, Living it, Loving it, Taking Notes so she could encourage others to their most fabulous selves.Ladies and gents, Michelle Visage, along with RuPaul can easily be considered the standard bearers that brought the Queen Scene to national prominence ... refusing to allow some of our society's finest artists be condemned to painful silence. It takes grit, courage, focus, and a refusal to bow before any other ... yet to acknowledge and learn from competition, to stand up for one's own self in order to speak most clearly and passionately about what matters to us.For those who speak ill about her role in that tough-love judging on RuPaul's Drag Race, just know ... before we could openly declare our love and admiration for Queens, or even openly throw shade at their performance in competition (thereby admitting that we had even watched it), when people had to gather in parks to avoid violent action against them, and /or just be their selves, when tremendous artists were dying of AIDS and being shouted at that they deserved it, when all of that was happening, those self-same artists, those technicians of wonder, gave Michelle Visage their blessings and instilled in her hope that SHE would lead on their silenced too soon behalf. There can hardly be any greater honor. This book tells it: the Queen Scene, the Entertainment Scene, the Being One's Own Very Best Self without Apology, without Shame, without any need to harm others to raise oneself. The REAL power of message of Michelle Visage, highlighted in this book, is this: Loving yourself, demanding the best from yourself means you can lead others in the same way, demand their best, while always holding yourself to ever increasing standards ... and in such cycle, we all benefit ... to the highest, soulful levels.Michelle Visage is approachable to the point of Amazing Realness ... but never allow yourself to believe that she's anything less than a professional who emerged through the toughest of competitions, not only in the 1980s Queen Scene, but in a world where greater society despised any and all who remained true to themselves. She conquered that world, continues to break those barriers, through nothing less than the Full Glorious Power of Love.Read The Diva Rules to learn how you can be a part of that Amazing Life Mission.Werk, babies. Werk your finest Freakified Selves. Anything less is a lie, and absences the world of greatness. That's what The Diva Rules is all about.

For Everyone!
I love Michelle Visage and RuPaul's Drag Race. Given how outspoken she always was, when I heard about her interview with Lady Bunny where she mentioned the book, I became intrigued. I'm a straight, white, Eastern European Jewish woman that's doing her doctorate who voted for Trump (don't regret it nor do I agree with all of his decisions either; yes, we exist!) but I am completely with/for the LGBTQ community; have many gay and lesbian friends whom I adore. When I first started watching RPDR, I thought Michelle was a mean girl. It wasn't until I watched YouTube videos on her and started to learn her background that I realized, all of her comments to the contestants were constructive criticism that came from a place of love. Then I read this book and I was very pleasantly surprised by how she spoke of her life and why she says and does what she does. I've since recommended the book to two friends (both straight lol). Everything she has, she's earned through working her ass off which makes me like her even more. The message of love despite differences is beyond prominent in this book and it's phenomenal! Also adored the photos she shared and the humor throughout. Only reason this book got the 4 instead of a 5 star review is because I thought those "The T" pages in pink were a bit distracting from the story and could have had a section of their own or put at the end of each chapter. Otherwise very well written! I love her more and more each time I see something new! To Michelle personally: Keep being the diva that you are as well as a wonderful mentor, wife, mom, and friend! Baruch HaShem! 🌺

Diva approved!
As a hyperqueen struggling to find her place in the world...I thought to myself why not read this book? And I'm so glad I listened to that inner diva. I found I related to Michelle Visage on so many levels, and through many of her life experiences, albeit mine might have had less fame and fortune...but that's not my point. My point is the I heard he voice through these pages. I felt like I was sitting on a couch with a cup of tea...while Michelle served the real T.People have asked me, "oh is your name Visage because of Michelle Visage?" And honestly no, that wasn't the intent though I was already an admirer from watching drag race. My Visage had her own humble beginnings, though after reading this book, I feel that Visage Legs LaRue has greater admiration and respect for Michelle Visage than ever before! I hope to shake her hand someday and thank her for being an inspiring, unapologetic DIVA...and helping to reawaken the confident, sass of a DIVA inside me.

Quick read - some good takeways
Bought this because we're big fans of Drag Race. Interesting to learn more about Michelle's life (even after all these seasons I had no CLUE who she was before Drag Race). My opinion of Ru changed a bit after reading this book, tho.If you are someone who struggles to "be yourself" or you aren't taking action on pursuing your goals and dreams, there is some good advice in this book.

This gave me that last nudge I needed
In my opinion, this book feels written for the soul that is uber creative and wants to take that step into their glory but something is holding them back. Maybe not knowing if they are good enough or if it's worth the risk, maybe a bad habit whatever. It helps to ignite your audacity to shine and lets you know that not only can you shine but you owe your sparkle to the world and to round all of that out the book highlights the importance of the health of one's soul. There are great stories and life lessons, it's funny and empowering. She also mentions a book that helped her and Rupaul back in the day(Ru gave it to her) and I bought that too and it's freakin' amazing...like amazing! I won't tell you what it is cause you have to read this to find out.

The Diva that is Michelle Visage
I read this book from cover to cover and as a 59 year old, I wish I had Michelle Visage when I had been growing up. I'm not gay or a Diva but I support the community she and Ru have. I would have loved to join them both on Drag race. Help the queens to open up their futures. I love Michelle and respect her opinions and would be proud to call her a friend.

Good book but mainly for young folk starting out in life not for old codgers like me but still enjoyed it although couldn’t take any of the advice offered by Michelle
