The earthern jar gets fungus from the moisture.
This jar gets white patches once you put water in it and after sometime the white patches turn into fungus. Not good for drinking water at all. I tried washing it with water and a scrubbing sponge a few times but my efforts were futile. I tried to return it but Amazon account says it just past 30days. The return window is closed by couple of days.

My 101 oz pitcher is beautiful!
I haven't used it yet, as it's soaking, but it was very well packaged and it's beautiful!Update on use:I soaked it 2 days and then filled it and let that percolate for 2 days and it's perfect! It may take it a week or so to fully saturate that way but I set it in a large clay pot saucer to catch the moisture and the taste is awesome. Cool, refreshing and just right!Prior, I was using terracotta ollas for humidifying the house, watering the plants and tea but they're not quite a half gallon. I really like this nice big pitcher. Not a gallon, but more than 3 quarts! With a full gallon, it would almost be too heavy to handle accurately, LOL! I've spilled some and the spout is a bit robust but it's fully functional, once you figure it out.PSKeep in mind that this is unglazed clay. The white stuff is mineral salts from your water and it's going to sweat. A lot, initially. So put it on a place or something. I've been using a couple of small, quite thick-walled ollas for humidifying the house in winter for a couple of years and they seeped for months. Plus, when it's humid, the difference in temperature is going to create condensation from the air, like a glass of ice water sweats. If you're unfamiliar with the properties and uses of unglazed clay, go find out. It's used to remove fluoride and other contaminants from water - sometimes in the form of plain old bricks - it's used to keep aquariums healthy, to filter water, to help with the handling of waste water, to grow food and to house the good microbes that eat the bad microbes and if you've never been in a house or room with natural clayed walls, you don't know what you're missing. The air is clean, the temp and humidity is always comfortable and it just feels good to be in such a room. It traps black-hat microbes and keeps white-hat microbes alive while also allowing them free reign.Nature isn't stupid. She knows what she's doing.

Mildew
When the product arrived, I cleaned and soaked it in water as per the instructions. After soaking it for 24 hours, I pulled it out and let it dry. After a couple of hours, I was smelling/examining it, and it smelled like mildew. Can’t be mistaken for anything else, just a really strong mildew rotted smell.I tried washing it with vinegar and salt, and the smell still persists.

Molds!
I loved it at first. It’s beautiful, and does the magic trick of cooling down water. I didn’t mind the slow leaking, I just put it on a little plate (as shown). But it eventually started growing mold! I don’t mean the discolouring ombré effect it got that was clearly calcium buildup etc from the water, but actual fuzzy mold spots. I tried letting it get bone dry in between use, leaving it in a sunny window, scrubbing it with vinegar, letting the vinegar soak in and dry, then washing it out. No matter what I did, the fuzzy mold came back in THE SAME SPOTS, so I clearly wasn’t even managing to kill what was already there, presumably because it’s so absorbent that it rooted right in.I posted about it on a fb “making do” group, and they couldn’t come up with solutions either. They all agreed that it’s not worth the risk of drinking from a moldy pot. It’s been demoted to a ridiculously expensive dried flower vase 😔
