Very Specific Must Have
Our house has a small landing with horizontal banisters, which is basically an off-limits climbing wall (which makes it so much more fun!). After a few days of constant “no climbing” reminders, we knew we had to find a better solution. This is the only thing I found that would work for our needs, but if we didn’t have the type of bannister we have, I would never have purchased a guard and mesh/net barriers wouldn’t have solid enough to prevent climbing.A couple things to know before you buy:- While it is clear, it is shiny and will reflect the light, so it’s not visually undetectable. Handprints will also show, so add it to your weekly cleaning list!- The cable ties included are white. I purchased black ones separately to match our railings.- We basically traded a ladder for a drum. Other reviewers mentioned how loud it is once installed (and it really is) and your child will love to bang on it... but I’ll live with it in the name of safety!- My hand still aches from using the included hole punch. If you have a large space to cover, I’d recommend buying a nicer punch too.Overall, I’m relieved we have safeguarded our stairs but I don’t love that I had to do it and wouldn’t volunteer to do it again unless absolutely necessary!

Good safety measure for adventurous cats
I got this product to help keep my daredevil cat safe after she had a fall off our 2nd floor loft/balcony. While this product is not perfect, it does the job better than other products. Before this, I had set up a mesh net as a safety measure. Needless to say, the cat climbed the net and was walking around on the top of the bannister, which was even more dangerous. Luckily this plastic is too slippery for her to climb and she has stayed away from the balcony since I installed it.Cons are that it's a bit cheap-looking for the price, and the hole punch doesn't work so I had to use a screwdriver. Putting this up took about an hour and it was kind of a pain. But ultimately I can have peace of mind knowing my cat won't try to yeet herself off the balcony moving forward, so it gets 4 stars from me.

Update: After almost three years, it’s held up well.
Oct 2017: This banister guard was far more complicated to install than other reviewers described. It took several "sittings" to finally get it up, probably totaling a few hours. (I've installed ceiling fans more easily than this banister guard.) It also doesn't look "invisible," as others describe. It scratches and smudges easily and every slight bend or bow in the plastic throws a glare, so it is obvious that we have a guard along our loft banister - and it looks pretty tacky and cheap. There was also two too few zip ties included to complete the job, not the fault of the seller, just annoying. I'd return it, but I've already punched all the holes and installed it, so it's staying up until I'm so annoyed with it I take it down and invest in something else. I gave two stars (instead of just one) because the price was reasonable compared to the alternatives, and the fact that the seller included a hole punch, which was very convenient. But overall, if I could go back I'd spare myself the hassle and money and just invest in something better from the start.Update June 2020: Updated from two stars to four. The reality is: we have twins, they just turned three, and this banister guard has held up to their destruction well for 2+ years. It was a pain to install and is not “invisible,” but it makes our loft safe for two crazy kids.

Useful, basic product
We bought this barrier because we recently obtained two kittens, and they were giving us heart attacks trying to walk along the outside of the bannister that overlooks our family room. Not wanting to have cats literally rain down on us from above, we purchased this product to prevent it.This is an incredibly basic product. It's just a roll of hard, flexible clear plastic, a hole punch, and zip ties. It also includes some screws to attach it to the wall. First thing we did was roll it out and cut to length. We decided to just do one long roll even though our balcony is in two sections. Punching the holes for either side of the bannister poles was the hardest part. I couldn't do it, so my husband had to as his hands are stronger than mine. If you have a better hole punch, it might be worth using it instead. After they were done, you just use the zip ties to fasten it on.It's not the most attractive thing, but at a glance you don't really see it from below and it's not distracting. We didn't bother using the screws with the wall and just tucked the loose ends along the wall and using the wall to hold it in place. The kittens aren't pushing on the ends (they're angrier they can't hang out the middle of it like they want, and one of them regularly walks up to it and hits it.)

Still as great as day one
We purchased this in 2016 for our oldest grandchild, who like to throw things, between the banisters, to the floor below.Six years later, and it’s still in the same great condition. A quick wipe with a worst sloth makes it look as good as new.We are fixed it by punching half inch holes along the top and bottom and using Velcro straps around the banister to hold it in place.

Multi functional
I was looking for something that was sturdy yet flexible to put inside my door windows where I was loosing a lot of air. This was perfect. I used double sided tape to attach. My electric bill dropped over $30
