Murder across the continents
Another excellent tale featuring Magnus, newly returned to Iceland. A story spanning continents and time with the sagas neatly woven in. I found the first few chapters a little confusing but the story clicks into gear and we're off.Magnus' previous sidekicks take more of a back seat and a new character Tryggvi Thor is introduced. There are hints of bent coppers and a story yet to be told. Does Magnus finally find love and a family?Bring on the next book!

Magnus is back!
It's good to have Magnus back in Iceland...although he doesn't stay for too long as he expands his ice-bound locations to include Greenland this time, on the trail of a killer with lots of blind avenues, much like Greenland's dead-end fjords. I might say I was a little disappointed with a lack of resolution to a certain character's storyline at the end, but I'm not TOO devastated since it bodes well for a sequel! The rest of the book was Ridpath's usual high quality product, gorgeous descriptions that flow in the text without standing out as excessive or filler-ish, but just sit perfectly in the narrative. The characters are all beautifully delineated and the plot twists and turns - I just love his work and really had to restrain myself from bolting it all down in one go! There was a "don't you dare!" moment close to the end, readers of Ragnar Jonasson's the Darkness who have also read the Wanderer will know which bit I mean and what I feared!! If you haven't read the rest of the Magnus series, go for it because they're worth it, whether you're an Icelandophile like me or just love a cracking good read, you're in for a real treat. But I do think this book stands well enough alone, so you could start here if you wanted (but why deprive yourself of so much additional pleasure?!)

The Wanderer
Very entertaining novel. Noticed one major flaw in the plot. But enjoyed it nevertheless. Looking forward to next M Ridpath book.

Very enjoyable, more please
I’ve really enjoyed all the books in this series, I love books set in Iceland, Magnus is a believable and engaging lead character and the supporting cast good too. I much prefer character driven detective fiction, and this gets the balance right for me between overly bleak and grim and cosy and quaint. More please.

Another great novel.
Another great novel from Michael Ridpath, based in Iceland, and featuring the usual cast. Looking forward to the next one.

Great story
I have read all the Fire & Ice books, I fact the first 4 I have read twice. This book, number 5, is fantastic. I had to force myself to put it down. I love the main character Magnūs & have developed a soft spot for some of his colleagues. Would highly recommend this book but would suggest reading all the books in order to learn about the characters. Definitely a 5 Star read!

Icelandic adventure
Another Icelandic gem. Plot keeps you on your toes until the end. An insight into life and culture in Iceland and its environs. Can't wait for the next one.
