Great practical info on a part of nutrition unknown to most folks
This is a great book for everyone interested in health and nutrition. The title sounds clinical and scientific, but the text is actually an accessible and fun read. Like most people, I usually think of diet in terms of food, but this book opened my eyes to the whole other realm of digestion which involves all the microorganisms involved and how they play a role in our health. The author also includes a lot of healthy recipes that actually look tasty, in addition to instructions for other things like cold remedies and even household cleaners.

Informative
I knew very little about gut health. I have had digestive issues my whole life. This book gave me hope that I may be able to finally get control of these issues.

Well-researched and thorough overview of a complex subject.
Mary Purdy is clearly an authority on this subject. Yet, while this book is researched-based, it is written in understandable and approachable terms for the lay public. If the microbiome seems confusing to you -this book is for you. With plenty of tips and recipes for the 'reset', this is a great resource for anyone wanting to improve or preserve their health.

Decent book
There are some interesting recipes in this book that are easy to do and doesn’t cost a lot. I would have loved images for recipes but at least there are easy to do recipes!

The perfect book to help you strengthen your immune defenses and avoid disease!
As a dietitian myself, I appreciated the book's science-based approach. I found this book is easy to understand and explains why we need to strengthen our microbiome well. The recipes are good and offer a nice example of how to apply the information in this book. Thanks, Mary!

No science abs simplistic
Very simplistic abs unscientific - no citations to back it up! And it suggests coconut oil when that raises bad cholesterol

not a cook book, well sort of it is
i requested a preview copy from the publisher because i thought it was a cook book.yes, there are recipes included. however, it is page 61 before a recipe is listed. Mary Purdy spends the beginning chapters explaining the microbiome, what is good for it, what is disruptive to it, etc. she gives sample meal plans that will help, taking into account, sensitive systems. it sounds complicated, but the writer breaks it down to be extremely easy to understand. maybe that's half of my battle: if i understand it, i can do more than just blindly follow a meal plan. if i understand it, i can incorporate the plan into my lifestyle and take control of my microbiome health.chapter 5 is where the recipes begin to be listed. they are easily to follow and every one we've tried so far has been delicious.this is a great resource for those who are wanting to regain and maintain a healthy balance within their own bodies of this delicate system, the microbiome.

Practical information on improving gut health
The microbiome is such an important topic to learn more about - how improving the health of your gut can have such a positive affect on so many systems in your body. This book is easy and fun to read and includes very practical ways to achieve a healthy gut. I really liked the section on diet and how important it is on gut health, the numerous dietary recommendations (best foods to eat for your health and foods to minimize or avoid) and meal plan (with easy to prepare recipes!). The book explains how achieving a healthy gut is more than just making dietary changes - changing your personal activities, using natural cleaners (great recipes using common inexpensive ingredients) and using recipes with natural ingredients to help alleviate common health issues.
