Great Book on the Stooge Shorts
Very thorough. Definitely a must have for Stooge fans. It gives what classic verbal and physical humor was used for the short.

Absolutely the Best I've Read on the Stooges
Author Jon Solomon has done a top job in writing this, possibly, definitive account, of one of the most famous comedy teams in history.I have been a long time fan of the Three Stooges since I first saw their antics on TV back in 1963, when a bloke was 5 years old. I haven't stopped laughing at the carryon of basically three well meaning blokes who are just so disaster prone. The Stooges have a long history of 40 years in films, starting with their first 'Soup to Nuts' in 1930 through to their 'Kook's Tour' in February 1970. My favourite Stooge has always been 'Shemp', with his jerky, flopping way around situations and slicked back hair that falls all over his face during mishaps. This book covers every film ever made by the Three Stooges in a comprehensive fashion, where the author really displays his knowledge of the Stooges and their work, the changes to their line up, where Curly performed his last in short #97-'Halfwit's Holiday', to Shemp's final in #170-'For Crimin' Out Loud', his last four shorts were filmed using a 'stand-in' are all described in intricate detail. Then the later Stooges, Joe Besser and Joe De Rita. Also included are some of the regulars like Christine McIntyre and Emil Sitka. Each film is discussed under three main headings of: 'Perspective' a short narration about the film; 'Visual Humour' covering the main sight gags of the film and 'Verbal Humour' with that film's notable lines. The author also adds additional notes at the end to elaborate on certain aspects of that film. The book abounds in photographs all in black and white format. In summary, a very thoroughly researched and written book on the masters of slap-stick; my one main concern with this work was that despite all the hard work and thoroughness in putting the book together, it is presented in a cheap format, similar to that of a telephone book, with flimsy covers and paper. I would ask that a future consideration be to enclose the work in hard covers. That aside this book will not disappoint anyone who has an interest in the Three Stooges! Well done, Jon Solomon!

Almost complete
What others have said is true...it contains a lot of information, perhaps too much about visual and verbal humor, facts repeated over again, too many references to other publications, tedious reading, no plot summaries, etc. Still a good book to have but...what I noticed was that it is not complete...there is no mention of "Jerks of All Trades" or "The New 3 Stooges." Yes, those are television productions put a chapter of the book is given to "Kook's Tour" and that, too, is a television production. Any book that calls itself complete needs to be, well...complete.

I loved both books
I recently purchased this book (along with Moe Howard's book) for Christmas. I loved both books. However, this one deals with all of the Stooges' comedy shorts for Columbia and all of their movies in the 1960's, and all of their other appearances. I also own the Stooges' Collection (all of their 190 shorts in one box set) and this book mentions all of them. Which is great because as soon as I am watching one of the shorts, I can read all it as well. Great companion piece. This book has a lot of knowledge on the Stooges, I highly recommend it, Stooges' fans. You won't be disappointed.Thank you Amazon for the quick delivery and great price.

Good for film buffs and aficionados
If you're looking for a comprehensive, somewhat scholarly examination of the entire body of film work by The Three Stooges in all their incarnations, including solo work, this is indispensable. if you're looking for an easy, light biography of the Stooges, then you may be disappointed. You will learn here a lot about them, about their professional career, about their changing skits and techniques, but you won't get much on their personal off-screen lives. You'll also learn a lot about the careers of the many people who performed with them; who had cameo roles, who was a long-time support actor, whose career started in their shorts, about the writers, directors and producers. For film buffs, this is crucial material.I keep my copy on the coffee table to browse through either as I watch episodes, or to select something I might not have seen. It's not the sort of book I feel I want to read cover-to-cover, although there are sections where I read through many consecutive pages..The only complaint I have is minor: the formatting of some of the cast and production information is black text in a dark-grey box, making it difficult to read. A lighter tint of grey would have made it a lot easier. But otherwise it's a terrific resource.
