Pretty good at what it does
I use it to keep track of compost temperatures, and it's great at that.

Most useful scale
I bought this to measure soil temps at different depths. I am solarizing my garden with plastic, and need to know the temp at different depths. The scale on this one is the best, as it does not waste valuable dial space on measuring from 20 degrees to 0 degrees, which I will never need to measure. So the rest of the scale is expanded and therefore more accurate and easier to read accurately. It seems to work. After a week I measured 110 degrees at 5 inches and 85 degrees at 10 inches. I put tape around the tube at the 5 and 10 inch marks. It would be nice if the manufacturer inscribed a scale along the metal tube, so you could easily read how deep you are measuring.

Essential tool for monitoring subterrainian temperatures
This is quite a long shanked thermometer so it can be used in deep compost piles. I applied an inch marker so I could be sure of the depth. The dial is easy to read. It does take time for the temperature to completely register on the dial so do allow for patience. I would recommend using a sturdy probe about the same diameter as the shank before attempting to get ground readings in uncultivated areas.

Not waterproof!
Definitely not waterproof and hermetically sealed as advertised. I left mine in the compost pile last night and we had a light rain shower. This morning, there’s condensation and actual water accumulated within the dial. Only a matter of time before corrosion occurs inside the mechanism. I’m returning it for a new one that I’ll not trust to get wet. Otherwise, it functioned well. The dial is somewhat difficult to read due to the edge of the thermometer somewhat blocking the graduations. Must be careful because it tends to bend too. I haven’t checked accuracy because I don’t want to contaminate my instant-read food thermometer by inserting it in compost.I want the mfr to replace it but the window closed earlier this month. Finding a box to ship it back, and not having a printer is a problem. If Firgus reads this, please contact me.

First time using it it broke.
The top just spins free of the probe and has zero calibration now. It was barely attached to begin with it seems.

Not accurate, hard to read in celcius
The needle barely moves regardless of where the thermometer is. When it's in my vompost it has the same reading as the ambient air even though I can feel heat inside my compost. When I take the thermometer inside, it stays at 10 degrees, even though my house is 20. I'm not sure this thing works at all.
