Great value for money
I have had many pond hovers over the years but I have to say this is so far the most impressive for the cost. It acts as a wet and dry hover but read the instructions BEFORE use, its important to understand the switching and the use of the two filters before you use it. The hover is very compact with a wide base to reduce tipping over, although it does switch off automatically if it does topple over. Comes with a number of fitments to help with all applications. It's also been designed to pack the hover away with the fittings and exhaust hose fitting inside the machine for storage when not in use.

Pretty Rubbish
Doesn't really work as sold with debris collector which is particularly useless - doesn't stop anything smaller than a leaf. If sludge is your problem this will not help unless you're prepared to empty the pond out completely.

Probably worthwhile... Well made, German quality
Following a house move last October 2021 we inherited a larger 8750 litre pond ( approx) and have 5 Koi fish , these are old and a big 18 inches .. they produce a lot of waste etc. We were unsure about the effectiveness of any pond vacuums at any price, reading the mixed reviews of many such products on here so held off... For the last few months we have been using a pond net to remove a lot of waste, debris in bottom of pond. We ordered the Swell vac and the debris collector combo here for ยฃ129. We were unsure about whether it was worth buying the collector in our situation as our pond is set at the top of a terraced style garden ..high up, alongside there are steps down to the end of the garden. 2 packages were delivered The vac arrived by Swells own courier. The debris net arrived later the same day via Amazon direct. Note we actually received a Pondmaster 3 vac.. not a Swell brand.. whether that was because Swell didn't have any of their own or.. and we think this is more likely.. their own is identical to the pondmaster 3 at a higher price ยฃ154 on Amazon .. Anyway, the vac made in Germany seems a quality item ie plastics etc. Having researched the 'how to do it 'before ordering ..we quickly were able to get the vac and filter combo working with our pond.. the vac manual is minimal help but there are YouTube videos etc which help you understand the principle of how these things work... They need height particularly to clear the waste by gravity.... There is roughly 30 seconds of vac then a pause and the water, debris is ejected via 2 metre drain hose , the outlet of which needs to be lower than the vac, the vac itself needs to be higher than the pond too eg on a garden chair. All this is crucial for the vac ( and others like it) to work ie gravity is needed, there is no pump pushing the water, debris out after its been vacced up.. We have been able to set up the vac alongside but above the pond ( using a wooden garden chair on which we sit the vac). This gives the height needed for the vac to operate and also essential for it to then drain down via the 2m drain hose into the debris filter ( or even without such a filter) ... Otherwise it will not function. Reading reviews buyers don't realise what is involved and that is partly the fault of poor vac manuals we think.... We are not sure in our circs, garden layout etc... that we really needed the debris filter at all. There was just enough length of the 2 metre drain hose to poke it out through railings into the side steps that lead down the garden on a slope ( IE terrace) meaning that the drained water and debris can go onto the steps.. we can then hose the steps and move the debris down and away.. that suits us. You have to work out what you will do in your garden.. Everyone will have a different garden set up. We decided we wouldn't circulate the drained water etc back into the pond. If you can do the same it will be far easier experience. We use a hose with tap water to top up the pond. We are not on a water meter too. The pond is big enough so that the chlorinated tap water will not hurt the fish. We know this having changed part of the water before a few occasions .. The vac instructions were weak but just about good enough. There were a few words. The instructions for assembling the debris filter seemed far worse. No words, 16 minute screws, you need to supply a suitable screwdriver too. The photos for this are very poor in our view. They don't clearly explain technique for the correct assembly... Therefore like so many products now you probably won't assemble it right first time etc etc. In short yes we would recommend the vac, it will be useful but part of me thinks you can't beat a good pond net with a long enough handle and some graft too.. to collect the debris manually. There will be instances where the vac will be useful... Using it and our net will be the best combo. Not sure we really needed the debris collector which adds ยฃ40 cost. Is it worth it? We will occasionally reuse the vac, on balance we would recommend it. We have the debris collector now and will probably use it again as we can't return it as it's used..... But you may need it if you have less space etc

Highly Disappointed
Think of a vacuum cleaner that hovers up the dirt, only to then empty 30 seconds later everything you have collected all over the carpet behind it. This is basically what happened here, the suction power is great, vacuumed up everything, then emptied it out all back into the pond. it basically sucks everything up, there are no filters in the device at all. We didn't receive the debris collection bag, so that may have made a slight difference but I suspect not as it will only be a mesh bag. Very disappointed.......

Debris collector not compatible with vacuum
Vacuum really powerful but needs 2 to operate it - has to be at ground level away from pond, so difficult to turn it on whilst holding the hose in the water. Had to return the debris collector because the vacuum empties by gravity and therefore would need to be on a table above the height of the collector. Swell provided return label and refund for return so no complaints there, although don't understand why the 2 items were sold as a package.
