Replaces our 17 year old WhisperKOOL3000
This new model has one improvement over the old one in that it's thermostat is digital. We haven't had the new one quite 2 months yet, but it is performing just fine. The old one needed to be sent to a factory repair center about half way through its life. That was frustrating because they had the unit for 6 weeks to repair a leak in the refrigerant lines. We're keeping our fingers crossed for this new model. Basically, WhisperKOOL is about the only game in town for small wine cellar climate control. We were pleased that the dimensions of the new model were identical to the old one's, so we did not need to modify our cellar wall opening to have it fit properly. July 10, 2013.

Quiet and Efficient Performance
I bought this unit to replace a commercial assemblage of components that had failed repeatedly. The wine room is 8X10X4, for roughly 320 cu. ft. The unit works as advertised, cooling the room to less than 55 degrees in the startup but bringing the bottle temperature to 55 degrees exactly. As it stabilized, the room temperature is gradually coming up to the same as bottle temperature (55).I had it professionally installed, and though not necessary, it worked out well for my installation. I recommend spending the extra money for your local refrigeration company to install it.Very pleased with performance, looks and quiet. My neighbors and my wife both appreciate the last element.

Stopped cooling after 3 years
Found leak in evaporator with coolant detector. Installed bullet piercing valve on suction line and filled with coolant. Unit has been cooling to 65F in 95F ambient (outdoors). Whisperkool calcs say heat load is 1200 btu/hr. and this unit is rated 2014 btu/hr. So, no surprise that it works when not leaking. Who knows how long it will hold coolant. Next unit will be the 4000i. All the reviews of these units are disheartening. At least this is the enemy I know.

I Just Need to Vent
Even though this model is no longer sold, I need to write. I bought one 2 or 3 years ago to replace a 10 year old WhisperKool unit that kept frosting over.I have been disappointed from the start. It leaks out the front necessitating me to keep a pan underneath it after several labels and racking were damaged from the first leak.I have cleaned the coils and drain lines repeatedly but it still leaks. WhisperKool was less than helpful when I discussed my issues with them. I wish there was a manufacturer besides WhisperKool because they would get my business. It is great to be a monopoly in a space.

RUN AWAY!. 2.5 years in, the compressor went out, $1,000 to fix.
When doing my research for a unit and in reading the reviews I saw a lot that stated it died 2-3 years into use. I should have listed. I sized this one out for my wine room. It worked great for the first 2.5 years until the compressor went out. Sure there is a parts warranty on the compressor, but even with that, the cost to fix the compressor is $1,000. To replace the compressor, you have to drill out the rivots and hack the thing apart. THIS A DISPOSABLE DEVICE.. Dont waste your time.

Died in 5 years
I have a September 1998 3000 XLT unit. It has stopped cooling after almost exactly 5 years, resulting in a very expensive annual cost. It appears that the refrigerant has leaked out. Unless they have learned how to better construct their units to prevent leaks, I would expect similar service from current units.
