This is a great travel set. But it is also a great way to try this great product. I purchased this because I carry-on when I fly and this eliminates my need to carry liquid shampoo. BUT, I was very pleasantly surprised when I used the shampoo bar for the first time. I have fine hair which tangles a lot. But this shampoo cleaned very well without drying out my hair. It felt wonderful after shampooing, far better than my regular premium liquid shampoo that I use at home. I still needed a bit of conditioner and had also purchased J. R. Liggett's Conditioner Bar. Using the conditioner bar after the shampoo bar, my hair was soft and silky and not weighed down at all. And both have a very light scent - not overpowering or clinging like many other shampoo and conditioners. I love this shampoo and conditioning bar so much I purchased a set for home use as well! Now that I have raved about the shampoo, I will say that you should let the bar completely dry out before putting in the little red case. If it is even slightly damp, the red from case does absorb slightly into the shampoo bar. I imagine if I was the case in lukewarm water, the extra red dye would probably wash out, but I haven't done that yet. I highly recommend this product - especially for travel.

First of all let me say I am one of those people who always reads reviews but never writes them. Sorry for that but I was so moved by this product I felt the need to share my experience. I read most or at least a lot of the reviews on this product before I ordered it including several other dry bar shampoos. Two months ago I did a mission trip to three countries in Africa and this little item right here would have been most helpful. I do plan to return to Africa Lord willing in the near future and this will be in my bag. I am a 57-year-old woman with below the shoulder length aging, color treated thin hair. I’ve always love the long hair and do my very best to take good care of it so for at least the past 10 years I have used a very costly hair cleanser which I love.....Wen. As I said I do love that hair cleanser and I’m sure I will continue to use that as well but it is very costly and not so easy to travel with at times. So this morning I decided to try out my new bar shampoo in my morning shower. I did have to lather the little bar up a lot to get enough in there to really cleanse all of my hair. Although my hair is quite thin I seem to have a lot of it and the links requires that I lather up a lot. I read others reviews that mentioned squeaky clean and I didn’t know exactly what they meant but I experienced that with this bar. I could hear the squeaking is in my hair so this morning I decided to try out my new bar shampoo in my morning shower. Now here’s what I did not like my hair felt dry tangled and heavy which really concerned me while I was still in the shower. Anyone with thin hair nose you have to be super careful and tangles will cause you to quickly pull a lot out you don’t want to !! I continue to lather up quite well and I rinsed very well to make sure I had all of the soap out of my hair. At this point I was not at all happy with the way my hair felt and I kept thinking I wanted to just redo the whole process with my Wen hair cleanser. For those of you who have never used Wen It is a smooth thick essential oil all natural cleanser but does not leather. It does a great job of cleansing your hair and making your hair feel silky and smooth. But as I mentioned it’s very costly and not easy to travel with especially if you are traveling for a couple of weeks as I did on my recent trip to Africa. I preferred to do carry-on luggage only and that’s almost impossible for me to carry enough of the Wen product in that little TSA plastic bag and have room for anything else in that bag. So back to my story I decided to really try this product out on its own so after I rinsed really well I got out and lightly towel dried my hair and was very unhappy with how tangled and dry it felt. I wanted to finish up the process so I could accurately review my results. I have a wide tooth comb that I used to D tangle my hair. I gently comb through my hair until all the tangles were out. My hair still felt a little bit dry but extremely clean. Then I gently blow dried my hair and I was amazed at the results. As my hair started to dry it not only became super soft but it had incredible volume without the use of any products. I do on occasion use products to give my hair a volume but I hate them because they are drying and just build up more residue and already thin hair. When I was done drying I snapped the picture attached to this review and you can see that My hair is smooth and even shiny (if you’re able to enlarge the photo) I can only say that I am absolutely thrilled with the results of this product. My hair also has a very light and very clean feel to it. The first bar are used in the sample package I can always say that I am absolutely thrilled with the results of this product. Give this little bar shampoo a try I think you will love it just as much as I do. I can only say that I was extremely skeptical but as a woman who loves to travel was looking for alternatives in my carry-on luggage

I have been searching for a quality bar shampoo that I can keep on hand for travel and in my emergency car kit bag (as opposed to a liquid so it won't freeze/melt, leak, or be an issue with TSA carry-on guidelines). I decided on the mini travel pack so that I could sample the 3 varieties that come with it (4 bars total) and see which I prefer before I purchase full-size. I love the idea of a bar shampoo, so I found this fun to try out! :) BOTTOM LINE: This kit comes with 2 original formula, 1 tea tree/jojoba, and 1 peppermint, as well as a little zippered pouch to hold them in and a small plastic "bar saver" that you attach to the bottom of the soap to keep it from sliding around or dissolving too quickly. The small sizes are perfect for traveling, with enough bars to throw in an overnight kit and a carry on bag, keep one in your gym tote, and use another for a weekend of camping. The smell is very pleasant and neutral and the ingredients are high quality. So far I have only used the original formula bar, so I will only speak for that specific soap in this review. It may help to know my hair type for those thinking of purchasing this; I have long, colored, naturally wavy hair. I have a lot of hair, but it's also very fine in diameter which makes it look like less. It tends to get oily within 24 hrs, but is dry at the ends, so I'm a daily shower + conditioner kind of gal. PROS: It smells good, lathers up well, and didn't leave my hair feeling overly dry (though I'd still recommend a little conditioner on the ends if you have long hair and plan to use it more than a day or two in a row). After the first use, my hair felt soft, looked shiny and nice, and styled well. It was pleasant to use and rinsed out easily. It also works as an all-in-one soap for use on body and face. CONS: For me, more than 2 days use caused my hair to develop some build-up that left me feeling like it wasn't totally clean. I could tell my hair became a little weighed down and somewhat more difficult to style (not horrible, but noticeable nonetheless). If you have super thick hair I wouldn't foresee that being much of an issue, but for my fine hair I appreciate a product that leaves it with some body. I also noticed that the more oily and/or the more product buildup my hair had, the harder it was to get the bar to lather and so as the days went on I wound up having to scrub and rinse 2 or 3 times to really feel like it was clean. I'm guessing if you have super thick hair it'll take more work for a lather also. SIDE NOTE: The other thing I should mention is that these bars are very tiny and so naturally they go quite quickly. They are comparable in size to what you see at hotels. I'd say with average hair-only use you'll probably get 4 or 5 showers out of each one. This is especially applicable if you lather them up considerably for oily and/or extra thick hair. I wouldn't classify this as a "con" simply because they are, after all, a travel sized product, but just keep in mind that if you'll be using one mini-bar for longer than a few days you'll want to invest in the larger size. I really wanted to like this. I ignored the negative reviews and the comments of a few friends who had tried it. This shampoo just plain is not good on my hair. Maybe you have to have a very specific hair type to get benefit from it. It left a residue on my hair no matter how long I rinsed. When my hair dried, it felt soft enough, but it left my hair limp and just was not worth using. I've been using it to clean my body instead. It's not really meant for that, but I don't want to waste it. The smell is nice, and the bars last a good long time + the bag is good quality, but it's just not worth using as shampoo.

I am going to SouthEast Asia for 3 weeks and I wanted to try a sample of this product out before I committed to buying a bigger bar. I am backpacking through Indonesia, and I have to pack my liquids sparingly in my carry on luggage (I need to save my liquid space mostly for sunscreen & bug spray). I showered with this product and to my surprise it lathers up really well and feels like real shampoo, and I have hair several inches off my shoulders. I am going to purchase bigger bars before my trip now that I know these work. I was skeptical because the "shampoo sheets" I bought a few weeks ago did not work a bit, but these bars are an awesome travel secret and I'll use them for all my future trips! They smell great too!

Do not use these bars if your home runs with hard water!! I did some research on different shampoo bars before eventually buying these. My home runs with hard water, and I did not think it would be an issue. This was very incorrect. The minerals in the water in my home interacted with the ingredients in the shampoo bars and coated my hair in a waxy residue. It made my hair sticky, which I thought was my fault at first. As I kept washing my hair with the bars in an attempt to fix the problem, everything kept building up and getting worse. It took a very long time and I eventually had to run my hair under extremely hot water to melt the residue well enough for it to come out of my hair. Aside from the reactions with the hard water, the bars seemed alright. The smell was very pleasant, the pouch was well made, and the plastic grip tray was very useful. I have tried other brands of shampoo bars since, but one thing that you need for all of them is a proper way to store them away from water. If the bars sit for too long in a went environment, the soap will run out faster from the moisture. It's best to find a soap bar holder with slats to hold the bar up so excess water evaporates off, bonus if you can cover it somehow to protect the tops of the bar(s).
