Great ending
I loved this story! It was not as jammed packed as the first one, but a wonderful way to end the duet. Although the epilogue didn't make any sense. The epilogue was more like a sneak peak at her next novel (which I'll read no doubt) but I was disappointed thinking I'd get a few more pages with One-Mile and Brea and I got a sneak peak. The misnomer is what knocked me down a star.

Loved this Conclusion to Brea and One-Mile's Story
FINAL DECISION: Loved this conclusion to Brea and (Pierce) One-Mile's story. I worried that the first book raised expectations that wouldn't be met in the finale, but this one was great and hit all the right notes -- passion, angst, drama, romance, action and plenty of sexy times.THE STORY: At the end of the first part of Brea and One-Mile's story, the two have fallen in love, but One-Mile's job is dangerous and the people he interact with a threat to Brea. At the same time, Brea is uncertain about One-Mile's feelings and intentions. Misunderstandings abound as these two try and navigate their emotions amid the expectations of those around them.OPINION: This second part of Brea and One-Mile's story begins with a misunderstanding which sets up the conflict in the story as the players react and set up new situations that the characters need to navigate. I'm not a real fan of misunderstanding conflicts -- especially because this misunderstanding seems to easy to fix. But thankfully, the misunderstanding is resolved and the characters go on to resolve the problem situations they find themselves in.The story goes really fast and the pacing just compels the readers to gobble the book up quickly. One thing I really liked is how Pierce is such a tough guy but who is sensitive and haunted by his past. He doesn't really believe that he is good enough for Brea. He has masked his insecurities and self-loathing by his outer toughness and anti-social rudeness. I really love when an alpha hero is just completely undone by a sweet gentle heroine. I like that Brea has morals and convictions but she is not judgmental or unforgiving. She also is certainly willing to go all in when she falls in love. The prior book had a bit more action, but this part felt more emotional.WORTH MENTIONING: This book completes Brea and One-Mile's story, but there is an epilogue that sets up the next book in the series. That epilogue leaves the book with a cliffhanger for the next story, but does not disturb the HEA for Brea and One-Mile.CONNECTED BOOKS: WICKED AFTER EVER is the second part of the story of Brea and One-Mile. The first book, WICKED AS SIN, should be read first. This book also overlaps in time with DEVOTED TO PLEASURE but that book doesn't have to be read to enjoy this one.STAR RATING: I give this book 4.5 stars.NOTE: I received an eARC of this book via the author. I was not required to write a review or to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

Lots of passion, suspense, and a few heart-breaking moments weave a wonderfully wicked story.
Shayla Black does not disappoint! This is the conclusion to the One-Mile and Brea saga and it is quite delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book of this duet and this second tome is just as good. Lots of passion, suspense, and a few heart-breaking moments weave a wonderfully wicked story. There is plenty of drama for Brea and her “medical condition” – but the best part is that she has grown into quite an assertive darling. (She was a little prissy the first time around). Also, it was much more meaningful having read Cutter’s book (Devoted to Pleasure) as these timelines overlap and we are now getting the “other side” of the story from Brea’s perspective. (I didn’t really “like” her in that book – too selfish – but she really wasn’t now was she?) Her father’s perspective was also much better than I thought that it would be – that was quite refreshing.One-Mile continues with his smitten-ness of Brea without apology – even though she mistakes his initial need for space – for her protection. He gets mixed up with that nasty Mexican cartel again – which keeps you on the edge as to when that guy is going to show up again for his revenge. That wrapped up a little too conveniently, just to pop up yet again at the end.I just love this couple and I am so happy for their “Wicked ever After” – which does actually happen after all the suspense getting there. This book consolidates several of Ms. Black’s Devoted and Wicked series storylines and sets up some new adventures going forward. I don’t know how Shayla keeps all of these timelines together – she must have one hell of a whiteboard in her office. I definitely recommend this book – but only after you read the first one – Wicked as Sin.

Love it!!!
Absolutely loved their story, his devotion was epic, her love was pure. His background was dark but explained so much about his character.

Well written but the characters did nothing for me
It's a dilemma how to rate a book that is well written but which the heroine spends most of her time without a spine. I grew impatient waiting for her to get one . Books 1 and 2 are unusual in the contemporary romance genre in that religion is central to this story. In addition, the heroine's demeanor is a flashback to the Loveswept and Harlequin romances of the 80's. This heroine is a devout Baptist and daughter of a small town preacher. She has led a sheltered life with her father and a male friend from childhood treating her as a perpetual young girl rather than a mature adult. Up until halfway thru the second book, she dissolves into tears at the slightest and runs to the friend for comfort not realizing he bullies and manipulates her. She is heavily involved in the church and when her father falls ill, she acts in his stead and comforts a parishioner by praying at their home. She explains her life with biblical quotes and says she lives a "moral duty". This can't be considered a Christian romance because she winds up having hot premarital sex with the hero. I cringed at the scene where the father shames her and his disappointment she did not remain chaste. The childhood friend can't believe she consented and must have been raped - later she overshares that it hurt as her first time, but that can't be rape wanting him to agree with her. With this as a backdrop, the hero must deal with the cartel and saving his woman. This book was not my cup of tea.

Brilliant finale!
What a great finale to One-Mile and Brea's story! I loved it!It's a roller coaster of a ride! One moment I was oohing and ahhing at the tenderness and love - and the next I was having to fan myself as it was so hot. Or there was a moment of hell, as someone or something came after Brea! Action packed and suspenseful all the way through!Short books but there's so much in them and they're so well written you're living it with them!
