An insightful and Enjoyable way to catch up on the science of elephants
I found this book easy to read and informative. I felt like it has taken a few decades of elephant studies and wrapped them all together to bring you the latest on all the research. It was not like reading science text. In fact, I enjoyed how the author weaved the story of her life into the book. I closed the book with some new ideas, new favorite elephants and new places I would love to visit. I listened to it on Audible and then had to buy the book to read again.

Fascinating!
I love how the author considers herself an elephant. She made me want to meet elephants myself. They are a very interesting and intelligent mammal.

Disappointing
The author's self-absorption overwhelms the science through most of the book. Sentence structure is sometimes awkward, presumably in attempts to be creative. I found the frequent page-length paragraphs to be an annoyance. I had hoped to learn about elephants but not much was achieved in this regard.I hesitate to write negative reviews, but have to remind myself of how they have saved me from ill-advised book purchases before.

Disappointed
Agree with MDW's review. I stopped reading half-way through, as I often needed to read a sentence several times to understand it. Book may be best suited for academics. It is not an easy read. DFS

Memoir, not a science-driven piece
It’s not a bad book, but it’s don’t expect to learn the natural history, evolution, or social-structures of these three species. Each page is filled more so with “I” than “they”, making it read as a researcher-focused more so than elephant focused piece.

Deludente
