Review: *The Practice: Shipping Creative Work* - *The Practice: Shipping Creative Work* is an inspiring and practical guide for anyone involved in creative endeavorsโwhether you're an artist, writer, entrepreneur, or simply someone looking to bring their ideas to life. Seth Godin delivers a powerful message about the importance of showing up, doing the work, and shipping your creative projects, no matter how imperfect they may be. What sets this book apart is Godinโs focus on the process rather than the outcome. He emphasizes that creativity isn't about waiting for the perfect idea or the ideal circumstances; itโs about building the habit of creating and sharing your work consistently. His insights on overcoming fear, dealing with criticism, and pushing through the resistance are invaluable for anyone struggling with self-doubt or procrastination. The writing is straightforward, motivational, and filled with actionable advice. Godin doesn't sugarcoat the challenges of creative work but reminds us that the true reward comes from the act of creation itself, not the applause or success that may follow. Do your work, ship it, repeat.
As I guess what you'd call a professional practiser this is se powerful info. So.much food for thought around creative output and working. We get wrapped up in it, we make the output about ourselves, we compete against others. Here we are asked to reconsider those feelings and practises. Seth gets us to consider the practise as being the aim not the output. To work on doing the work and not on creating the next great thing. This is now my most annotated and folded corner book on the shelf about artistic working. A great read for anyone in or outside of the creative world.

The Answer to What Is Holding You Back From Being Creative
โThe Practiceโ is about inspiration. Itโs about giving you inspiration. Written as mini chapters (there are 219 chapters over 256 pages) it provides you with bite size pieces of advice. Much of the counsel is there to turn around the excuses you have in your head that stops you from starting that business, from writing that book, from writing that song. It doesnโt take long to read, but itโs time to โship creative workโ.

Ok.
I didnโt particularly like the style of the book. It had some good points but rather boring. This is more like a bunch of notes that in some way touch on creativity rather than a book that specialises in it. Iโve read about 70% of the book, as I felt like I was just wasting my time.

A Great Read For Those Wanting To Start A Creative Journey
This is a lovely book to read. Seth writes for anyone who wants to change the world, but doesn't feel ready. For the creative person who doesn't feel ready, for the person with writers block. This book encourages you to just start where you are and Trust in the process. You will find your supporters and the critics will always be there. You do the work because you Care to make a difference in the world. Not to ease people who will never be happy.

Doing creative work (that) matters
Pure Brilliant Inspiration - only Seth Godin can make the challenge of doing creative work that matters feel inspirational and that there is no there way. This is what being wealthy is, the joy of life, free from the status quo and what others think. Drives me forward with passion and meaning. Thanks Seth for sharing your work with people to help drive this way of living on

I love the book. I am a songwriter, and am killing it with my practice! Search for 'Lila Tace' lots of love to You reading this! I know Seth is not reading his reviews (yes I'm a nerd, and listen to his interviews, and read all of his books...) but this is my favorite yet, Seth! It speaks to me deeply, and I want to thank you for guiding me to gently learn to see, and understand what I do, and who I serve with my art in generosity - Lila Tace

Unfortunately, I've finished the book. I've read it slowly, a few pages per day, because I knew I would become sad when I finish it. I follow Seth's words almost daily. I recommend this book for all knowledge work professionals, especially freelancers and independent consultants. You'll find here words of wisdom, acknowledge that it's not your fault โ it's the way things are โ, and get more confident to ship your work.
