The Joy of Origami

I had this book as a kid and just recently reacquired it to remind myself how to fold the T-Rex. The diagrams are easy enough for anyone to follow and there are a few fun creations to be had. The paper included is a bit shiny which gives it a somewhat tacky quality and there are only a few designs specifically tailored to the models in the book. As a reference though it is a great place to start.

This had been a gift to me many years ago, and it began my interest in origami. So I ordered 3 of them for folks to whom I will be teaching beginning origami. I figured the special paper would be a plus for my "students", although I also ordered some plain 6" kami for them to practice with. (I think ordinary Kami is most helpful for beginners, to let them see the folds and creases more easily.) The book has a nice variety of easy to more difficult projects, and has the usual 'prep' -- how to fold the various folds and bases. The directions are pretty good, and there's a nice variety of subjects. I'm no professional by any means, and there's a couple items I still can't do, but it's fun to push the envelope, and maybe my 'students' will teach me -- origami after all is a community thing. It's a fun book that you can go back to again and again to make some favorite things and to keep trying to master the rest of them. And, the papers that relate to the various projects are nice, and they are easily removed. This is a nice basic book.

Cute book of designs, good for beginners. There is paper included that you can rip out of the book, but it is so thick and so shiny, it just does not work. The papers are more glossy than the pages of magazines, and so thick they're nearly card stock - impossible to get good, sharp folds. The instructions are a little hard to follow as well. Watching videos is much easier for me than using a book like this. However, the book is very thorough, the paper really is beautiful, so it probably does deserve five stars.

I absolutely love this book. I'm teaching myself the art of origami and I find the bulk of selections to be a bit common. Then I stumbled across this book and was overjoyed by the unique twists on the usual patterns presented in so many other books. The sinking ship is cool, as well as the inflatable goldfish and business reply card chair to name a few. You will find traditional patterns as well, but what sets them apart are the included sheets of paper. Gorgeous patterns with most designed specifically for these unusual patterns.

My kids (4 and 6 years old) love this book very much. We pick some to work on every day and they love to share what they made with their friends. They can follow the graphic instructions in book with a little help from me although my 4 year-old cannot read yet. They learn fast from the book and they feel proud of themselves when they teach other kids to do the origami. They love the origami paper coming with the book and they also like to make it from other color paper and decorate it in their own way. It is a place where they can really use their imaginations and be creative.

Good quality book - and the pages that it does include for folding paper actually has dotted lines and instructions on how to fold it.Really awesome. Planning on purchasing another for my daughter since the first one was a gift.

I had purchased this book for myself some time ago and when my grandson expressed an interest in playing around with Origami I picked him up one for Christmas. The directions are clear and the diagrams easy to read. Another good feature is that it has paper in the back of the book to practice with. It has everything you need to start your first origami project.

A very useful beginner guide that provides clear instructions for the novice, and includes a variety of paper that enables you to try as a whole package.
