Oozes with charm, humour and Scouse wit!
Delightful. Nice to hear Nigerian characters, written positively. Nice to hear of young black children doing well. I am a grandmother and will be buying it for my grandsons and grand daughters. Itβs nice to hear about the academies in Liverpool coming so far in terms of diversity. I remember 1960βs Liverpool. Itβs great, fantastic, out of this world, for me to hear how far we have come. The voice of Jacopo is hilarious. The relationship between Mother and son. A triumph in writing. The book oozes with charm, wit and love. All I can hear in this writing is how much this woman loves her son. As a mother of a son. I applaud her and it. And hope Jacopo gets exactly what he wants. His talent is palpable.

A Really Enjoyable Read
Jacopo Jacopo Football Star is a children's book but is interesting enough for all ages. I really enjoyed the down to earth way that it is written, you can really see/hear the characters personality and know instantly it is authentic. Plenty of humour (mainly of the Scouse kind), a loving relationship between son and Mum (also Dad) and the start of a young boys dreams and aspirations coming to fruition. I really hope Jacopo's progression in the career of football reaches the heights he wants but that he maintains the down to earth character that he is clearly being brought up with. Well done Phina Oruche.

Brilliant account of a young boy pushing to be a pro footballer
It's brilliant in it's simplicity. A wonderful interaction between a boy and his mother.Great to read about the highs and lows of a young man on a journey. The distractions of haircutsbeing more of a worry than what happens on the pitch still exists today?? Glad the perms of the 70's have gone!Looking forward to see where Jacopo goes next on his journey, whether he hits the big time in football or not I still want to read more about this great relationship between a mother and son from Liverpool.

The characters are brought to life
A short story covering an important year in a lad from Liverpool's life. The dialogue is fll of sparkle; I can easily imaging myself in the car on a four-song journey back from training, or around the kitchen table as Ifeoma raises her eyebrow warningly at Jacopo - a relaxing, encouraging, engaging read. As a bonus, 32 colouful illustrations are sprinkled throughout the story - showing friends, family, home life, and most of all FOOTBALL!

Easy reader
This book gives an insight into a young footballer's journey from grassroots football to being signed with a Premier League team. It's extremely easy to read and accessible for children. The brightly coloured photographs/images throughout help the reader to visualise the family and the references to local people and places of Liverpool keep the content relatable. The perfect book to devour during lockdown!

Real and alive story of a boy's football success
The writer is a fantastic actress in real life, and a happy, loud, creative personality shines through in this writing. The dialogue feels real and the boy's world and language is captured perfectly. I loved it as an adult, but this book would be perfect for early teenage children who enjoy football.
