Rosalind and the Little Deer Hardcover – Picture Book, March 15, 2012

This is a beautiful book with lovely, heartwarming illustrations. The story is captivating and features wonderful examples of creative problem solving, compassion, and courage. As happens in the presence of any great fairytale, our children will probably be unaware that these wonderful ideas are being planted in their souls--they're too busy being transfixed and delighted by the story.

This story is what all children's books should aspire to be like. My daughter loves this story so much we just purchased another one for her school. Elsa Beskow has a way of capturing your imagination and bringing you into the story. I love reading this as much as my daughter. The artwork is beautiful as well.

Seventy years ago I could recite this story/poems by heart.Now I read the English version to my grandchildren. They love it just as I did !

I can't praise this story highly enough; it is so beautiful it makes me want to cry! A little girl has a best friend who is a young deer. They live in a peaceful forest glade under a blossom tree. One day a hunter comes and disturbs the deer. Smitten by the gentle reproach of the little girl, he feels so sorry that he goes to try and get it back. But the king has captured the deer and put it in a gold cage. The deer refuses to eat from sadness. Eventually, after many adventures, the little girl finds her deer... but the king will not release it! So she gets into the cage with the deer, who finally eats the blissom from the girl's hand. The hunter finally frees them. They get back to the peaceful forest, happy ever after. This book has a strong moral that you cannot buy love, and mistakes can be undone with kindness. Vitally important reading for all children!

Children really love this book. Quite simple but the justice of it really appeals to them, along with the beautiful illustrations.

My 3yo boy absolutely adores this book. A lovely story of heroism and pacifism.

Que cette petite merveille n'ait apparemment jamais été éditée en français est incompréhensible et lamentable. Où diable les éditeurs ont-ils donc la tête?? Fourbissez votre anglais et traduisez-là à vos bambins: personne ne sera déçu !
