A well deserved tribute
Not only the singers present in this tribute but the tracks selected make out of this CD a tribute to music in itself. Furthermore, the feelings that emerge song after song make it a piece to enjoy from the beginning to the end.

THE ULTIMATE TRAFFIC JAM
There was so much promisse to this disc ,some of the top musicians coming together to pay tribute to the former tub thumper from Traffic,a great time was expected by all"Paper sun"kicks of the set with a lacklustre performance by the usually excellent Paul Weller,he sounds tired and off key."Lost inside your love" by Stevie Lange does not fare much better."Living on the outside"features Joe Walsh,Bill Wyman and Jon Lord,is taken at a slower pace, and is a soulful improvement on what has gone before, sounds like Eric Clapton in some partd,Jon Lord is on good form."Elixir of life" features Dennis Locorrieri(of Dr hook fame)and is a pleasant number, but thats all,a filler track."Whale meet again"features Simon Kirke, drummer for Bad Company and is a vast improvement,a greaat blues romp!"Loves got a hold on me" by The Storys follows next,i have heard of them, but know nothing by them, but on this showing they sound good,a ballad that is thoughtful and pretty>"Forty thousand headman" has always been a favourite of mine and Joe Walsh(Eagles/James Gang)does a great version of the song."Man with no country" features Yusuf Islam in a very rare appearance, very good indeed,he does sound like Paul Weller on this.great piano solo as well."Light up or leave me alone" is performed by Stevie Winwood, with typical charm and finesse as you would expect, try and dig out the live album "On the road" for a great version of this."Dear mr fantasy" finishes of CD1 and once again features Steve Winwood, great version54.27CD2"Evil love" features the great and sadly missed Gary Moore and is a fitting tribute to both Gary and Jim,great playing on this by guitar hero Gary"Here we go round the mulberry bush"features Paul Weller a gain on this former hit single by Traffic"Let me make something in your life" feature Stevie Lange and Jon Lord, and is passable but is to middle of the road for me."Gifts of unknown things" features Phil Capaldi,Jon Lord and Bill Wyman, sounds like "Its too late" in the first few bars, and then settles into its own groove, quite good."Love you til the day i die" features Margo Buchcannon and once again i have no idea who on earth she is!!I do however know who Pete townshend is,a nd he interprets a storming version of "No face,no name no number""John Barleycorn must die" features Joe Walsh,a nd no Capaldi tribute would be complete without this, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant!!!"Pearly Queen" is another Weller version of an early Traffic song"Rock and roll stew"once again the standard dips with this Dennis,Locorriere,Margo Buchannan and Stevie Lange, offering. The final track "Love will keep us alive" is a jam featuring Steve Winwood,Joe Walsh,Mark Rivera(who?),Gary Moore,Jon Lord,The Storys and Bill WymanThis album has some great highs that are counterbalanced by some awfull lows,i would have expected better.CD1.....54,27CD2.....52.87RELEASED.....2007EAGLE RECORDSJIM CAPALDI.....R.I.PGARY MOORE.....R.I.P

Capaldi- Is Awesome
A tribute album always speaks well of and to the artist- in this case Jim Capaldi. Unless you know of Capaldi you might not appreciate the talent of this man as well as his contributions to music. Other artists however do recognize his towering influence in the industry - this is worthy of purchasing- you can enjoy it time and time again especially if you are into various rock styles from the softer melodic to harder and heavier versions of music spawned in the late 60's through the 70's.

Dear Mr. Fantasy...fantastisch

FANTASTIC
This 2-CD set is a fantastic auditory experience, thanks in part to the wonderfully rich acoustics of the Roadhouse. Jim Capaldi's peers and admirers provide a musical tribute that feels almost more like a journey. From Paul Weller's lilting and melodic opener, "Paper Sun," to Dennis Locorriere's magical and bassy "Elixir of Life," to brother Phil's "Gifts of Unknown Things," and many, many more tracks, this wonderfully captured concert is a real turn-on. You'll want to replay it over and over again. An amazing congregation of artists touchingly perform here an exquisite set of classic (and lesser known) songs. Although Joe Walsh sounds somewhat aged, his emotions are heartfelt; Steve Winwood, on the other hand, sounds the same as ever, particularly on "Light up or Leave Me Alone." Yusuf Islam's performance, although beautiful vocally, is perhaps the least polished (in all fairness he had only recently dipped his toe back into pop performing), yet his appearance is nonetheless unparalleled. Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of this CD (and concert) is the simultaneous appearance of my two favourite artists: Yusuf Islam and Pete Townshend. I've closely followed the careers of both for years and to my knowledge this is the ONLY instance (venue, recording, published work, or otherwise), where the two have EVER appeared together, despite often being linked to mutual colleagues. So that makes the concert particularly special to me. Pete Townshend's "No Face, No Name, No Number" is tear-jerkingly beautiful and perhaps the most acoustic and barest performance of the evening. Yusuf's pick, "Man with No Country," (which he embellishes with bars of "Wild World") seems as much a reflection of his own life. Instrumentally this entire concert is delectable: the bass is rousing, the keyboards are cool, the horns are groovy; everyone's voices are great to hear, too.The CD booklet contains tributary remarks by the performers, each memorializing Jim Capaldi in his own way; these are comments you won't read anywhere else. But they all agree that Jim was a gentle, rare, and gifted musical soul. This concert did him justice in much the same way that the Concert for George (Harrison) honored him. This CD is a worthy substitute for a concert many of us did not have the good fortune to attend.
