Great buy!!!
This product is deffinatly worth buying if you want or u like the movie, it comes with a 2 disc special edition DVD of the movie pearl harbor (the movie is split between the 2 discs), though i would like to see more behind the scenes and special features but what are you gonna do! to make up for that it comes with a National Geographic DVD that relates real life people and events to the movie pearl harbor! Then it also comes with a LARGE double sided National Geographic map, one side is the layout of the U.S. in 1943(authentic Replica*)and the other side illustrates the approach, the battle, and the attack on pearl harbor. The movie it self is a Michele Bay production and is an amazing movie! This all comes neatly in a nice leather bag Looking* (cardboard) box with a little note stating president FDR's speach to congress after the attack! I really like it and if your gonna buy it buy it like this!

Gift set
I was amazed at how much you get in this 60 Anniversary Commemorative Set. One movie (2 DVD"s), is not all true to the actual events, but a really good movie with Ben Affleck in it and I loved it. The National Geographic (2 DVD's) is factual, which I wanted to know. It has a old type map put out by National Geographic and a replica of the announcement that Franklin D. Roosevelt put out at the time of the happening of Pearl Harbor. It come in a old looking box as does everything in it too which is really neat. Even though I bought this for myself, it would make a great gift for someone else.

Buy This for the Documentaries on Disc Two
I give this movie a four-star rating because of Hollywood's intrusion. The first hour of the movie should have been focused on the events which led up to the attack. Instead, Hollywood felt compelled to stick a love story into what should have been a documentary-style movie. They did this with Titanic, remember? Our government made many mistakes that allowed the Japanese to attack us the way they did, but that was skimmed over for useless soap opera.Afleck did a good job portraying the arrogant pilot. After watching all those men die on the ships, however, I was irritated with his macho bravado. I wanted one of those Zeroes to shoot him in the head so he would shut up. Better yet, I wanted to shoot him myself.I liked Josh Hartnett's performance better, although he was a little too sweet sometimes. Alec Baldwin (Doolittle) has lost the passion he had had in The Hunt for Red October. The movie had some humor. For instance I liked Red, who stuttered when he was nervous. I would've laughed at the scene where he tried to warn his crew about the Japanese if I hadn't seen their brutal onslaught against those ships.I thought the attack itself was done very well, although Hollywood had to intrude in that, too. The bombing and the killing went on for at least a half an hour, to the point where I wanted it to stop. I didn't have any empathy of the main characters in the story, but I did for all those sailors and military personnel. I got a chilling sense of the hatred the Japanese felt for us. The directors did a great job of portraying that as well as the helplessness of the doctors who tried to save those men.The movie takes up one and half discs. On the second disk, is a documentary from the History Channel, which gives a very interesting and detailed account of how our involvement in WWII began. There's another documentary which talks about the men who died and the Arizona memorial. Also included is a Faith Hill video, which I had no interest in since I'm not a fan. So, I skipped past that. Last but not least, there is a piece from the National Geographic. The documentaries are worth buying this DVD set. The movie itself gave an overview of what happened at Pearl Harbor, but it entertainment.

What is wrong with pretty boys?
This movie was wonderful. You must have characters who are beautiful even if its a war movie. Its a movie, not a documentary on Discovery Ch. A good film makes the watcher fall in love with its characters. If not, why would you care if they lived or died? I watched it on Dec. 7, 2001. Watching it so soon after the events of 9-11 and on the 60th Anniversary could possibly have made the film more powerful for me. I do know that I watched it with 2 very manly men and they got teary at some places in the movie also. And Danny, Josh Hartnett's character played a wonderful right hand man to Afleck's Rafe. They both got the look of longing down when they looked at Evelyn. I've been a Titanic buff long before the recent movie and you can't compare many films to that one. Why should you? Why does Pearl Harbor have to be compared to anything? Rafe, Danny and Evelyn all played the parts of heroism very well. Rafe's character was supposed to say those over-the-top romantic lines. Thats who he was. I hope people can stop comparing this film to others and watch it for itself. It is a beautifully made movie with wonderful special effects. And girls, isn't Josh hot??
