Beautiful, high quality watercolor set!
I've struggled for a while to find a brand of pan watercolors that suits me, but I think I'm really going to love this set. I have only swatched them so far, but I find that the color lifts easily from the pans, and they are vivid and bright - no muddied mixes or dull tones in this box. There was no brush included, but I didn't buy the set for the free brush. Spendy paints? Yes, they are. Could you be disappointed if you buy them? It's possible, but consider that these replace a Sennelier set of 24 that I really tried to love but failed. Lovely paints in their own right, they just aren't for me. If you're not willing to leave it to chance, buy a couple of individual pans of Rembrandt WC paint and test them first before you buy this set of 48. I took a gamble on a gut feeling and just bought them, but I also have an extensive set of Rembrandt pastels that gave me added confidence in the quality of materials I was ordering. If you're just getting started in art or in watercolors, this set might not be what you want to start with. I've never met an art teacher that would advise a student to start with this set. I never regret buying quality materials that I can appreciate and use, but I hate it when I don't like them - then I've wasted my money and my time - and maybe it would be helpful to also add that I have a $10 set that I LOVE but wish I had some assurance of its lightfastness and archival quality, along with an array of mediocre and lackluster sets that all swatch out identically, so there must be a company that mass produces them for resellers to market under their own labels. Avoid those if you can. This set of Rembrandt watercolors is hard to beat, and I know this because I've tried. I also love Winsor & Newton's Professional line of watercolor pans, for what it's worth, but they only offer an extensive palette of colors in their more economic Cotman line, and limit the Pro pans to a set of 24, which I'll admit is all the colors I'd ever need in most cases. I find that Cotman is excellent for field sketching and quite affordable as such, but lacks the brilliance of the Professional series. This Rembrandt set will probably never leave my studio, partly because it's larger size makes it impractical for my sketch kit, also because if I have a set lost or stolen, I'll more gladly sacrifice a cheaper one. I hope this has been helpful! Have fun painting!

These paints are so beautiful. You won't be disappointed. They are well worth the investment. The only thing I think they could do better is with the pans they don't stay in as well as they should for such an expensive set.

This is the best set of 48 colors I own.
Highly pigmented and pretty standard metal case. I swatched a lot of different pan paints recently from different manufacturers and saved the Rembrandt for last. These colors are in a class all their own.All you need is a nice sable brush and water and the color practically leaps from the pan to the brush. I didn't have to prewet the pans and didn't have to scrub them to activate the paint. I had no idea pan paint could be so alive. Once I touched the paper the color reached out and spread almost instantly with heavy intensity. I swatched 3 yellows and by the time I finished rinsing the brush I had to change the water. It turned the fresh rinse water I had into a glass of concentrated orange juice. I'm going to buy another set. Even at $160 it's well worth the money. The set includes genuine cadmiums, cad lemon, cad yellow light, cad yellow deep, cad orange, cad red light and cad red deep, viridian, cobalt blue, chromium oxide green and other colors, not hues, that you don't see with the less expensive palettes. There's phthalo blue in red shade and green shade as well as ultramarine deep and French ultramarine. Amazing color and performance.

Really nice set of water color pans
My husband bought me this set as a gift. It is a very nice set of water color pans. I did need to buy magnetic tape to keep the pans from sliding around. Not sure if I need this many colors as I find you will still mix colors and I keep using the same five or six colors. Keep the wrappers and cut them smaller so you can make a swatch.

The best watercolor set that I own and that money can buy!
Great set with great color variety. I tested the colors out, and I was just amazed at the richness of the colors. Anyone who has experience with colors knows that feeling of feeling like the colors are never dark enough. Well with this kit, you won't have that problem!

Love
Translucent and vibrant. Easy to rewet and an abundance of color choices. Love them!! My case was scratched even though it came in a sealed package, and they weren't cheap so that stinks, but it's OK I guess. I love the colors.

Best of the Rest.........for me!
This is undoubtedly the best paint I have ever used. In a comparison test I used several of the major brands side by side. The colors appeared identical but behaved differently. I found the Rembrandt had more "life," and independent action.........Several well known artists refer to it as 'The mind of watercolor." I found that if I left things alone instead of fussing with them, the paint seemed to augment my work. I would come back after it had dried and see shifts that pulled my piece together. I am not a well seasoned artist and this was amazing to me. I learned a great deal, with practice, about leaving things alone and learning that the paint is part of the process. Watercolor became a cooperative venture instead of a controlling one. I know that many top of the line artist brands have devoted fans and I never understood why. Now I do.......... .

Totally worth the splurge
I have tried pretty much every half pan watercolor pallete there is, and this by far is my favorite. The way these layer, lift, and blend is like an absolute dream. These are made with real pigments instead of those cheap dyes and never gets chalky or muddy. I also love having a huge color selection like this. Beware though, cause you will never go back lol!
