A James Patterson Presents Novel From the #1 New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series comes a new blockbuster series! Two sisters. One brutal murder. A quest for vengeance that will unleash Hell itself... And an intoxicating romance. Emilia and her twin sister Vittoria are streghe -- witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Vittoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to find her sister's killer and to seek vengeance at any cost-even if it means using dark magic that's been long forbidden. Then Emilia meets Wrath, one of the Wicked-princes of Hell she has been warned against in tales since she was a child. Wrath claims to be on Emilia's side, tasked by his master with solving the series of women's murders on the island. But when it comes to the Wicked, nothing is as it seems... Review: That spooky book you didn't know you needed in your life - "A twig was a just a bit of broken wood until it had been sharpened into a spear.Grief carved me in half. And fury honed the pieces into a weapon" 5 FREAKING FAT STARS First off kerri- how could you stop there?? that should be the eighth sin lol Aside from having a stunning cover, my first thought after starting the book is that it has a great many blends of my favorite genres and traits to quench my fantasy loving soul's thirst- Historical fiction, set in Italy, murder mystery, broody hero with MANNERS(yes I put that in all caps because the seems to be a rarity these days in books ;) ), forbidden romance, atmospheric ambiance with all the fantastical elements to captivate you with the perfect amount of spook but not outright scare you and last but not least a reserved MC lead that learns to kick ass as she goes "Emilia Maria di Carlo didn't do danger. My sister was the adventurous one- I was satisfied with safe, clean and fun.Give me a steamy romance novel with forbidden love and impossible odds" I loved Emilia ever since I read these lines, she is definitely my kind of girl, she is level headed, smart and extremely sassy and gives two squats if she had to fight the devil or the God for justice. When her beloved twin is brutally murdered, she ventures into an unexpected path with dangerous secrets and 6 foot 2 inch calamities, she keeps surprising herself at her own strength that she could draw when she believes someone she loves is in danger. I am not usually a huge fan of single POV's or internal dialogues but I loved Emilia's witty brains and its sassy comeback's, I have so many favorite lines from her. I wished we had more of Wrath but I have a feeling we will see a heck lot of him in the upcoming books, he is broody with a hard shell exterior but you couldn't help but notice his good internal aspect peeking through often. I was sold when I read that there is a romance angle between a demon and a witch but what I didn't expect is a romance that is a chef's kiss- don't get me wrong because this doesn't mean there is a lot of steam but there is lot of rationale to it which I always prefer over meaningless steam. Now that we talked about characters lets talk about the plot- Man Oh Man! did Kerri knock it out of the park with the masterful intrigue she weaved into the this fantastical mystery? I would say a 100% yes- she is exceptionally good at deflecting the reader from seeing what is right before their eyes, that being said I did see bits of it coming but the bread crumbs that she left leading to unravel the mystery is excellently executed, however I have 1 million questions and I wanted to be like Emilia and write all of them down, the gothic element of the book adds perfect balance to its demure historic fiction premise Its a perfect book for the spooky season to pick up but I can't make any promises that by the end of it that you won't be willing to sell your soul to the devil or make deals with demons (pun intended) for the next book or for the answers you might need ;) Review: Acceptable, but not without its faults - I will not lie to you, I devoured this book within 48 hours, but I am out of town without much to do, so do with that information what you will. Let me start by giving a spoiler warning- I won’t be giving up the entire story, but will definitely spoil some good plot twists so if you plan on reading this book- and I recommend this you do- the TLDR is: I thoroughly enjoyed it, but the writing can be a little lacking. I’ll start with the positive- the story is absolutely dripping with the tantalizingly forbidden. From witches dabbling in forbidden magics, to terrifying demons invading the earth, to mysterious and violent murders, to handsome princes from hell- this story by all means has good bones and a sturdy foundation to work with. Now here’s why it didn’t all work for me. The writing feels like it’s shooting for SJM and just falls flat. There’s points where it’s unclear what actions are actually being taken, and what’s being imagined by the main character. There’s points where very important and dramatic events are happening and the writing does not offer the emotion and drama to match- moments that should be tense, frightening, or exciting that are explained with only a few dull sentences. Do not get me wrong- there’s some beautifully written moments, and great imagery, but it is NOT consistent. For instance- when an invisible demon attacks Emilia’s grandmother, the writing does a great job expressing how unexpected the attack is and how Emilia emotionally handles the aftermath in a way that invokes the feelings in the reader perfectly. But then you get Emilia’s two weeks of crippling depression brought on by Lust’s emotion draining magical influence. The entire two weeks are summed up in just a few pages and simply cured by Wrath throwing her into an elemental bath (why it took him this long to help her, I’ll never understand). I would hope the writing would put the reader through that emotionless, motivation-less time as well- forcing us to experience a bit of that alongside Emilia- but it was quickly resolved and moved past. It does not feel like Emilia has to face many consequences- as before mentioned, her falling into Lust’s trap and being influenced by his powers, being childhood friends with a witch hunter, mouthing off to princes of hell, and dabbling in dark magics she once thought to be forbidden… there aren’t really any lasting consequences until the end of the book when she agrees to align herself with (MAJOR SPOILER) the house of pride and sell her soul, and even then that was ultimately her choice to make. When it comes to the characters, it feels like everyone has depth except for Emilia. Now I’m holding out for some character development in her as the series goes on, but for now she feels a bit two dimensional. I will say there is change! She does goes from quiet and safe to vengeful, courageous, and power hungry but there isn’t much build up- she does have the motivation to become this way, but it goes from 0-100 quickly. Emilia went from fearing dark magic to summoning a demon. Normally I’d appreciate some work on the MC’s part that takes her from a weaker witch only interested in peace to a courageous witch with the magic to back it up, but as some others in the reviews have noted, Emilia has no business being as bold as she is. She never seeks out other witches- including her grandmother, and her friend and her friends aunt who practice the dark arts(and both have names starting with C and ending in A which gets confusing and easy to mix up)- to expand her magical prowess. Even Emilia herself admits she knows little when it comes to magical attacks and defenses, especially ones meant to protect her from the powerful demon princes she’s facing, but she does little to fix it. Plot wise, things feel a little too convenient. There are multiple times when Emilia happens to stumble upon the very thing or person she’s seeking out(or events that push the story along.) I get that the horn leads her to it’s matching half- that much makes sense- but she just happens to find things because some disembodied whispers guide her to it a little too often. Don’t get me started on the romance. Wrath and Emilia go from hating each other to passionately making out. I definitely feel the narrator hinting at Wrath having a soft spot for her from pretty early on, but there’s not enough to back up the sudden switch for me. I know there’s a fine line between love and hate, but the line was just a little too fine for my tastes. I feel their friendship developed nicely, but the romance came and went quickly. To wrap things up, I will be reading the second book. It’s probable I will recommend this series. There’s been quite a few books/series recommended to me lately that have been downright unbearable, but this series is one I’ve enjoyed despite my harsh critique. I know I just spent a good while tearing this book apart, but I enjoyed reading it nonetheless. I’m still holding out hope for some character development and some plot holes to be resolved in the second book though, but all in all I’m excited to start it.

Series Review
The Kingdom of the Wicked Series had me binge reading with a ferocity! I managed to get through all 3 books in a matter of 6 days and absolutely loved everything about it. For the sake of avoiding spoilers, I decided to review series as a set as to not give too much away. The series follows Emilia, a witch, who finds her twin sister brutally murdered on an altar in her hometown of Sicily. Emilia’s search for clues leads her to experimenting with magic she has been warned against by her family her entire life. In her attempt to summon a demon for information, Emilia summons the Prince of Wrath, one of the seven Princes of Hell who she begins to develop a conflicting attraction to. With the help of Wrath, Emilia gets closer to solving her twins murder, but begins to get pulled deeper into the court of the wicked, where there are secrets that may cost Emilia her soul. Emilia’s family owns a restaurant and the author’s connection with food recipes is integrated throughout the series, which I thought was a nice touch. The series takes place in both Sicily and within the seven circles of hell where the princes of Wrath, Pride, Envy, Lust, Greed, Gluttony, and Sloth make up the Kingdom of the Wicked. The world building within the court of the wicked and how each circle represents its assigned sin was one of my favorite parts in reading these books. There was mystery, spice, fantasy, and paranormal elements, all which are big wins for me as a reader. I loved Emilia’s character development and enjoyed seeing how fierce she became with each passing book. The author has a spin off, Prince of Sin series, set within the same universe which I will be moving onto shortly. TW: Murder, Grief, Death, Open Door

Team Wrath
✨ 🅡🅔🅥🅘🅔🅦 🅣🅘🅜🅔! ✨ Book: Kingdom of the Wicked Genre: YA - fantasy ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 /5 I truly enjoyed this book. The story line was intriguing from the start. Witches, curses, and Princes of Hell… what’s not to love? Emilia is a witch who battles between doing good and doing what she thinks she needs to do for the greater good of her people… no matter the price it costs her. Wrath is one of the seven Princes of hell. Wrath is everything his name indicates he is. He is dangerous and he is fear. When Wrath and Emilia find themselves accidentally bonded they don’t have many options but to work together. But can they learn to trust one another? Or will their worlds set them too far apart? This book has been high on my TBR list for a while now. The intriguing story line and concept kept my attention. Page after page I was waiting for what I anticipated being a steamy romance between enemies turned lovers. I mean honestly… Princes of Hell there is bound to be some right? Wrong.. unfortunately the romance I was hoping for never came. The potential was there literally lingering on every page just waiting to make its appearance. With that being said, that potential, despite my 3.5 rating I have high hopes for book two as the ending left me wanting more! 😃

Witches and demons
Kingdom of the Wicked By Kerri Maniscalco Publisher: Little Brown Books for Young Readers Genre: Teen & YA Historical Fantasy, Teen & YA Dark Fantasy, Teen & YA Historical Romance A tale of witches and demons, this story is based in Italy and follows Emilia as she tries to discover who murdered her twin sister, Vittoria. In her attempt to summon a demon, she accidentally summons one of the Princes of Hell - the Demon named Wrath. They work together reluctantly to find the killer. The writer does a great job at pulling you in and making you feel for both Emilia and Wrath, and the depth of detail in the witchcraft is stunning. The author either practices or did her homework. The way the first book ended was one heck of a cliffhanger and I cannot wait to dive into book two. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book: “I can’t sit here while the person who killed her walks free. Please don’t ask me to trust in a witch I’ve never met, or in goddesses I’m not sure really exist. Vittoria deserves justice.” “You must put this to rest for your family. Nothing good will come from knocking on doors best left closed. Find forgiveness and acceptance in your heart, or darkness will seep in and destroy you.” A twig was just a bit of broken wood until it had been sharpened into a spear. Grief carved me in half. And fury honed the pieces into a weapon. Now it was time to unleash it. Goddess above, I could hardly breathe. I wanted to squeeze my eyes shut forever. Instead, I stared straight ahead, pulled my shoulders back, and waited for the smoke to clear. I hoped the kingdom of the wicked was ready for a vengeful queen. Side note: love it when the author uses the book title in the book. Gives me goosebumps when done right, like that last quote!!! Read this is you like: 🧹 witches 😈 demons 🧹 slow burn 😈 forbidden magic 🧹 Princes of Hell 😈 enemies to …. 🧹 Murder Mystery 😈 Italian setting 🧹 witchcraft focus on food & cooking

Wow, this book was certainly amazing.
"There are victors and victims. Decide who you want to be. Or the choice will be made for you, witch. And I doubt you’ll like it." Storyline/Plot: The plot was really good. I think that a string of witch murders really reigns you in, and then the idea of the Seven Deadly Sins being involved is (in my experience) very unique, and I love the idea of it. I do kind of wish the Seven Deadly Sins played a bigger role than what they traditionally are, but they still filled the role really well. There was a clear plot that was followed really well and written even better. I do wish there were some more action-packed scenes, and more spells, because you know, a witch, but maybe that's something book 2 will give me. The cliffhanger was also pretty insane and made me glad by 2nd book preorder came on time, although the signs pointed to it, for some reason, I just did not read into that foreshadowing, and I am here for it... kinda. (view spoiler) Although it took me quite some time to read, I was definitely in a bit of a slump after finishing the 4th Savage Lands book, and a rough week of work meant it took me longer to finish, but I still think the length was perfect for the story. "Love is the most powerful magic. Above all else, remember that." Romance: I wouldn't classify this story as a romance by any means. I think there's some angst, but it's clear there is no resolve or continuation of that, at least in this book. I was hoping for some action between Emilia and Wrath, and there was definitely some banter, but it didn't amount to much. Although there is a lack of romance in this story, it's not taking away from the book because it wasn't meant to be a romance story. "One day you'll call me Death. For now, Wrath will do." Characters: I do love me these characters. I think for the most part the Seven Deadly Sin characters are portrayed pretty well, but I do wish there was more action based on their Sin, for some of them. I also love Emilia, I love that she's clearly powerful and strong, but she's not portrayed as this big and powerful, fighter MC that a lot of other books do to their female leads. Her character development in the grief of her sister's passing, and her fight for vengeance, is incredibly written. I wish that we had some more time to find out what Vittoria was like because she gets described as certain things after she passed that we didn't get to read as her personality trait, so it felt like a slight disconnect. World-Building: I think the world-building was good. I was confused in regards to placement at times, but in terms of descriptions, it was really well written. There wasn't a point where I felt overwhelmed, or couldn't imagine a place that was being described. "You always have the power of choice, even when those choices seem limited. Never forget that." Overall, this is definitely a great book, but there are a couple of things I feel like we're lacking in order to get it to that 5-star review, but I would reread this book, and likely will when the 3rd book comes out. It's a great Spooktober read, and I am excited to get to the 2nd book. There is a lot of hype behind this book, and don't get me wrong it is a fantastic book that I would definitely recommend to others to read, but in my opinion, there are other books I would hype up more than I would this book.

Great read! Can’t believe People are not talking about this a series
Okay .. this was a great read! Never was I bored - never did I roll my eyes - this book does not carry any spice which I was concerned about at first - because I did not want to feel like I was reading a YA low angst predictable read - well let me tell you the saying don’t judge a book by its inside cover!! The AUDIBLE is a must .. we have Italian accents - whimsical and eery music .. so damn good. 🩷

I love the suspense that KoTW gave, however, what kept it from getting a 5 star was the writing style in some parts - I thought I had missed something so I would flip to the other page to see - but I didn’t, it just feels like it jumped a little. With that being said, I cannot wait to read 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗱.

Kingdom of the Wicked: A Darkly Seductive Fantasy of Magic, Murder, and Sin
Kerri Maniscalco’s Kingdom of the Wicked is a dark, intoxicating, and utterly enthralling fantasy that seamlessly blends murder, mystery, and romance with deadly magic and seductive danger. If you love enemies-to-lovers romance, morally gray antiheroes, and a world dripping with gothic atmosphere, then this book is an absolute must-read. A Sinister Mystery & A Determined Heroine The story follows Emilia di Carlo, a young Sicilian witch whose world is shattered when she discovers her twin sister, Vittoria, brutally murdered. Desperate for answers, Emilia does the unthinkable—she summons a Prince of Hell. But instead of getting the information she needs, she finds herself caught in a deadly game with Wrath, a demon who is as dangerous as he is alluring. Emilia is a fantastic protagonist—driven, intelligent, and fiercely loyal. Her grief and rage push her to defy everything she was raised to believe, leading her deeper into the dark, seductive underworld of the Wicked. Watching her unravel the truth behind her sister’s death while battling her own growing attraction to Wrath is an electrifying journey. The Dark & Lush World of the Wicked Maniscalco’s world-building is stunning—steeped in rich Italian folklore, ancient curses, and a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. The setting, from moonlit cobblestone streets to secretive underground lairs, is dripping with gothic allure. Every page feels like a step deeper into a dangerous, enchanting world where demons walk among mortals and power is always bought at a price. The Seven Princes of Hell, each representing a deadly sin, are one of the most intriguing aspects of the book. Wrath, Pride, Envy, and their brothers are deliciously sinister, but it’s Wrath who steals the show. His chemistry with Emilia is pure tension—a perfect blend of reluctant allies, unspoken attraction, and undeniable danger. A Romance That Smolders The romance in Kingdom of the Wicked is slow-burn perfection. Wrath is the ultimate dark antihero—ruthless, cunning, and deeply enigmatic, with secrets that will leave you craving more. His relationship with Emilia is charged with tension, banter, and a simmering intensity that is impossible to resist. If you love a romance where trust is hard-won and danger lurks in every shadow, this book delivers in spades. Why You NEED This Book ✔️ A Spellbinding Murder Mystery – If you love dark mysteries woven with supernatural elements, this book will have you hooked from page one. ✔️ Witches, Demons, & Deadly Curses – A world filled with magic, deception, and an age-old war between mortals and the Wicked. ✔️ A Heroine Worth Rooting For – Emilia’s journey from grief to vengeance is compelling, emotional, and empowering. ✔️ A Sinister & Seductive Antihero – Wrath is equal parts danger and temptation, and every scene with him is pure gold. ✔️ Twists That Will Leave You Reeling – The plot is full of secrets, betrayals, and jaw-dropping reveals that will keep you turning pages late into the night. Final Thoughts Kingdom of the Wicked is a sensory feast—dark, immersive, and utterly bewitching. Kerri Maniscalco has crafted a story that is as seductive as it is sinister, pulling you into a world of blood-stained secrets and forbidden magic. With gothic ambiance, a gripping murder mystery, and a romance that will leave you breathless, this book is utterly unmissable. If you love enemies-to-lovers tension, morally gray antiheroes, witches, and a mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end, Kingdom of the Wicked is the dark fantasy you’ve been waiting for. 🔥 Would I recommend this? Absolutely. This book is magic wrapped in sin, and I loved every second of it.

Sicuramente preordinerò il sequel in uscita a ottobre (Kingdom of the cursed).

"Man had a funny way of blaming the devil for things he didn't like..." * Emilia and her twin sister, Vittoria, are witches who live amongst humans in Sicily and, together with their family, run a well renowned restaurant. When Vittoria misses a shift, Emilia goes in search of her sister only to find her brutally murdered and her body desecrated. Emilia is hell bent on seeking vengeance at any price, even if it means turning to dark and forbidden magic. It's not long before she finds herself paired with Wrath, one of the Wicked and a Prince of Hell. Together they must try to figure out who is responsible for murdering these witches before it's too late... * "He was death and rage and fire and anyone stupid enough to forget that would be consumed by his inferno..." * Seven deadly sins? Check. Witches? Check. Mouth-watering Italian food? Check, check, check! Honestly, a friendly warning, don't read on an empty stomach! This book has a tendancy to make you want to indulge in yummy culinary delights. I loved this book and the murder-mystery vibe mixed with the supernatural. I really enjoyed the gothic and Halloween (my favourite holiday) feel to the story and, of course, I'm a sucker for romance so when I see a brooding Prince of Hell and a sassy witch coming in to her own power... it's a no brainer that Emilia and Wrath have got my vote. So much happened in the last third of the book that I was left reeling. I just honestly couldn't get enough of it. * "Fear made monsters of men..." * There were a couple of times I had to go back and reread whole scenes just to make sense of them. I would have liked to have seen a little more from Emilia and Wrath in terms of enemies-to-lovers banter and chemistry. But these are really minor issues and I'm sure my questions will all be answered in the next book/s. Roll on October and Kingdom of the Cursed (especially now its New Adult)... * "You always have the power of choice, even when those choices seem limited..."
