The handle is all metal as one piece to the blade. The handle is wrapped in nylon or some kind of rope.

Is that a weak point in the middle of the blade?

No. It is not. The weak point is the tip.

What ages do you think this sword would be ok for?

Considering that it's a weak piece of chinese steel that broke after using it to chop light brush, it's not really "okay" for any ages. If you don't mind it being hot garbage, it would be suitable for anyone old enough to swing it without injuring themselves.
