The Mad Apprentice: The Forbidden Library: Volume 2 Hardcover – Bargain Price, April 21, 2015

This first book was bought for my daughter as a Christmas present. She loved it and has since requested this second book in the series. I am just really glad she found a really good book to read and explore her imagination.

It was a gift for a child crazy about mysteries and she loved it.

I’m enjoying these books. Well written. Very clever magic system, great characters. My problem is, I don’t understand the point of the existence of the Readers. They seem to exist only for their own benefit. They can damage the world, kill humans without consequences, etc, but they don’t seem to benefit the world at all or create any thing positive. In fact, it seems the rest of the world doesn’t know of their existence. The only thing they seem to do with their magic is fight with each other. Therefore,I have a hard time caring about them. Alice is a good character, but even she doesn’t seem to question the reason for what she does, even when people get killed. On the other hand, I’m not the target audience for these books. Maybe kids don’t need to know these things. I’ll keep reading, but I’d sure like more depth.

Of the three books so far in the Forbidden Library series, this one was my favorite because of the fine construct of the labyrinth with time and space intertwined. I like to imagine what Jorge Luis Borges would think of it, especially with his "labyrinth of labyrinths' story (and often underlying premise of much of his work) "The Garden of Forking Paths." I read this a few months ago and should have written the reviews right then. The whole concept of "loosing oneself in a book" takes on new meanings in this series. The writer deserves a wide audience, and I give these books as gifts whenever possible. While it may be likened to other series, I put it as one of my favorites for this age range. The writer eschews the snarky characters/ madcap action so popular these days. It's a fine series about friendship, ethics, loyalty. And it is enthralling. Very inventive and frightening at times.

Excellent part 2 in the series. The last few chapters were action packed! I couldn't put it down until I found out how it ended. I am really looking forward to reading book 3. This series is for all ages. I was concerned that it might be a tad bit cartoonish looking at the covers. I am so happy I didn't let that stop me from buying book 1 as I haven't been disappointed. The characters are well rounded, the writing flows nicely, and the story line kept me turning the page. If book 3 progress's as well as book 1 did into book 2, then book 3 is going to be a very exciting read, I can hardly wait for it to arrive so I can dive right into it!

Bought 3 books of the series. Liked the first one; this one is just as good. Worth the time and money

This sequel unraveled a few more secrets as Alice and the other apprentices ventured into Torment's labyrinth. However, there are still those unknown, like what exactly Ending wants with Alice and is there a chance Alice's father escaped the burning ship? Yeah sure, Alice thinks he's dead now, but I still have hope. LoL Magic and monsters around every twist will keep you breathless, no seriously, you'll feel like you need air to help Alice and the apprentices rest from all the battles.

Loved the book and asked for the next one in the series. A winner.

Bought as the next book in the series for an eleven year old. She jumped with joy when I gave it to her and started to read it immediately. If I could prise her nose out of the book for half a minute, I am sure that she would give it five stars - or probably ten if she could.I shall definitely look out for the next book in the series as the first two have given so much joy to my granddaughter. Buy The Forbidden Library first.

Really good book. Gets you sucked in and I will be reading the others.Great author and I will read more from him

I wanted to read the next page to find out what was happening I loved the story

It's an incredible ride to pass through and yet i was feeling disappointed during the climax. I was hoping a but normal thing for the climax of the second book in the series. Yet a nice read.
