A Rake's dream!
The story has a lot of funny or light hearted part that I enjoy! And there's some drama as well that touched my heart! I'm not sure who to be mad with! Martin for hurting Helen or Helen for hurting Martin! There's a bit of suspense as well. And having characters from previous novels are always welcome! It gives more credence to the relationships.Glad that Martin & Helen's dream finally became one!I only wish it ended with the wedding!

Everything Stephanie Laurens writes is good
This is a good Regency romance, because Stephanie Laurens' books are always good. That said, this one is a re-release of one of her early books -- and it is not as good as her later books (like anything in the Cynster series, all of which are fantastic). This book, probably because it is one of her earlier works, is quite tame, with no explicit love scenes at all and only a very light mystery element. And that is nothing like her later books. This book is much more typical of Regency romances written some time ago -- the characters attend lots of society events, which means there is much time spent on their clothes, and the strict manners/behavior expected of them. It doesn't have any of the steamy scenes found in Laurens' later books. It also doesn't have any of the strong, independent women found in her later books, who know how to get their men to do what they want, and don't hesitate to rebel at society rules. The women in this book, while intelligent, put up a token resistance to the control of men -- but end up falling into line with what their men want. So, while I did enjoy this book, I prefer Laurens' more recent works. This book is entertaining and well-written. If you are looking for a typical Regency romance, with no explicit love scenes -- this is a good choice.

This was a good facsimile of a Georgette Heyer book for the first half (according to my kindle, it was exactly half when it took a turn for more steamy than Heyer--but it was not a sharp turn). It was a fairly quick read and enjoyable. Both hero and heroine were very likeable and even the "villain" was not particularly despicable--except for the bit about the kidnapping at the beginning which seemed out of character as the story unfolded. The steamier was more along the lines of the old time movies--kind of fade to black and left to your imagination. I liked it but if you like more thorough description, this is probably not for you. When Laurens hits the mark, she does very well and this one hit the mark for me. She neatly tied up all the loose threads very quickly at the end. While I can carry the story further myself, I rather enjoy an epilogue--which this one lacked. It was a "happily ever after" but I would have liked a little more then what.

It had a good plot with the mistaken identify of the two girls and exciting part when Juno was in danger but still even though I like Stephanie Laurens books I think she has far too much sex in them. A little is good but every other page gets boring. I usually skip 10 pages of description until I get to more of the story.

Dreadful
Not up to her usual standards. This book was such a let down. The description is accurate but what was written was excessive. I expected a small encounter followed by Merton figuring out who she was. Nope, it was a long drawn out mess. Way too drawn out. Then followed by a courtship. But when the multiple marriage proposals are rejected it was so bad o wanted to brain myself with a rock! She doesnβt even use the correct punctuation! I am shocked she let this be published under her name. It was terrible. I gave it two stars instead of one because the premise was good even though the delivery was subpar.

Lovely story.
I enjoyed this book very much. I liked the main characters very much, there was chemistry between them. Martin fell in love with Helen, Helen with Martin, Martin proposed three times, and Helen refused him three times. She thought she was saving him from financial ruin. Eventually they work it out. Lovely story.

I love this strong woman and her not giving in or giving up when things get hard or even dangerous. She sounds like me. I love the humor injected in the story throughout the entire book. A great read.

The period feel was good ...
I love these 'Georgette Heyer' type Regency novels by Stephanie Laurens. I have all Ms Heyer's novels, and am now acquiring an e-book collection of Ms Laurens's!I rate this a five star book - although not quite as good as 'Four In Hand'! I did like Martin Willesden, Earl of Merton, and also liked Helen - so that is a nice beginning for any book. The storyline was not particularly strong, but the characters were well rounded, and the period feel was good. I certainly had great difficulty putting my kindle down over the 36 hours I managed to read this book in. I won't elaborate on what is in the preview, but if you enjoy traditional Regency Romances, but which are just a little 'warmer' than Ms Heyer's, then this is certainly for you.I only have one small complaint. Ms Laurens is usually quite sure-footed where British noble titles are concerned, but things get a little cloudy in 'Fair Juno'. Martin's mother is said to be the Dowager Countess (which she would have been if the son who was married to daughter in law Melissa had become the Earl in his turn). However, she is referred to as Lady Catherine! She is Lady Merton - a married woman - not Lady Catherine, who is the unmarried daughter of a Duke, Marquess or Earl. Also, since she is referred to as the Dowager, and the two little granddaughters are given the courtesy title 'Lady', Melissa must be the Countess of Merton. When Martin marries, his wife will also be the Countess of Merton! It seems like nitpicking - but it ruins the great Regency feel for anyone who understands about titles! It is, nevertheless, a very good read, and I would recommend it thoroughly. I am now off to find another one of Ms Laurens's novels!

kept you interested
reading this after Impetuous Innocent was hoping for a better story and this one was better. martin willesden has recently come back to england from the carribean and is now earl of merton, travelling home to visit his ageing mother he comes across Helen Walford in distress. after helping her get back to london he is completely taken with her but as he doesnt know her name vowed to hunt all london for her. but as fate would have it she is a friend of his friend Hazelmere and Dorothea (Tangled Reins). the rest of the story is their way to wedded bliss with a few obstacles in the way, his brother, his reason he got send to the Carribean and her belief he would lose his fortune if her married her. a much better effort!!

Pathetic Heroine
Loved the story, found it very entertaining, but I could have slapped Helen for her stupid behaviour in constantly denying Martin and throwing up pathetic excuses. I'm afraid I would have loved to see Martin walk away from her once and for all! Loved the story though.
