I really liked this movie. Mostly English language with some Danish and Italian thrown in. I'm a fan of Pierce Brosnan and he did not disappoint in this film. Ida is at the end of her treatment for breast cancer. Clearly it's been devastating, but her good nature, sense of humor and her deep love of her family have kept her going. Then she finds out her husband is having an affair and btw, he is a clueless idiot. Although it's no excuse, he is blindly ignorant of the effect of his actions. It is a question put to Ida later in the film as to what she ever saw in him in the first place. Phillip is a bitter widower. He is very successful and polished, but has never moved passed the death of his wife. Although Phillip and Ida have never met, his son and her daughter are getting married at the Italian Villa owned by Phillip, which has been abandoned since his wife's passing. Phillip and Ida get off to a very bad start. What I liked most about the film is how well these two characters were written and acted. At first Ida comes across to Phillip as unappealing and trivial, but he begins to see her inner strength, goodness and beauty, and his icy exterior slowly melts. I was confused somewhat with Patrick, his son. The trajectory there did not seem logical to me. He is obviously conflicted but not sure how that completely explains the decisions he made. The peripheral characters provide a lot of color, drama and humor and Italy always makes for a beautiful and romantic stage.

THE STORY IS MASTERFULLY SET IN BEAUTIFUL CINEMATOGRAPHY.PIERCE BROSNAN'S ACTING RANGE IS FULL SPECTRUM, WONDERFUL TO WATCH ANDCOMPLETELY DRAWS IN THE VIEWER. THERE IS AUTHENTICITY IN THE PERFECT MATCHOF STORY, PIERCE (PHILIP) & THE FEMALE LEAD TRINE (IDA).EVERY MAN & WOMAN ON THE PLANET SHOULD SEE THIS FILM FOR THE LAST 8:44 MINUTESBEFORE PICKING A PARTNER OR GETTING MARRIED.

Wonderfull all around. The story, the acting and cinematography were all beautiful. Fills your heart with feelings of love toward life and what it really means. There are many stories running parallel to the main story which is what made the film a joy to watch. It has a mixture of subtitles and English language but it doesn't spoil the film. Very enjoyable!!!

I really liked Susanne Bier's After The Wedding and I am a fan of Danish directors in general (Lars von Trier is my god!), my wife likes romantic comedies, AND we are going to Sorrento in a couple months, so this movies seemed like a win, win,win. Plus the preview makes it look like "Mama Mia!" which we thoroughly enjoyed. And there were good moments and similar moments to Mama Mia, but a lot of the plot and charcters were painted with the broadest of brushes, almost Uber-Hollywood over-the-top. The cheating husband/dad is a fat slob with no taste or self-awareness--Boo, hiss! The main heroine is extremely strong, all understanding and all-forgiving--You Go Girl! The attractive young coworker who is sleeping with the husband/dad is an insensitive, superficial, dumb, slut. Go ahead and enjoy hating her! It's pandering in the worst way. If they built on that and did it up as a melodrama, it might be interesting.There is no chemistry between the heroine and Pierce Brosnan, the hero. The English dialogue is stilted and cliche in the worst way. I can only hope that the Danish is more lifelike and real. This film will amuse you for an hour and a half, but you probably can find a better movie.

The players in this are all really excellent and believable. I cared about some and I hated others (meaning well-portrayed). I utterly fell in love with Dyrholm's character as I watched Brosnan's do the same, and I can absolutely relate to Brosnan's character -- finding yourself drawn to someone unexpectedly, and despite your best intentions and beliefs about your own romantic capacity.The title is insipid, and the original was for more compelling (The Bald Hairdresser).The cinematography is gorgeous, and does justice to Italy.The only real downside is the mediocre screenplay. The story needs work, and could've been quite a bit improved...All in all, it's worthy of attention for the lead characters' portrayals and the beautiful Italian scenes captured.

The film is a really nice middle aged romance. Most of it is set in sunny Italy, other parts in Denmark. It's a co-production from various European countries, the director and the majority of the cast are Danish with the addition of Pierce Brosnan and a few other actors from English speaking countries. In keeping with the story involving nationals from different countries with their different languages, the film features dialogue in several languages, mainly Danish and English, with some Italian. Non-English dialogue is not dubbed but subtitled in English. Personally, I found the Danish dialogue charming (and I don't know any Danish myself) and didn't find the subtitles in any way irritating. This unusual audio/subtitle choice is clearly mentioned in the product description of the DVD and really shouldn't come as a surprise to buyers. If you want a film with all dialogue in English, stay away from this.If you think you can live with a bit of Danish (or even better, enjoy it), this film has much to offer. While the Pierce Brosnan character is possibly a bit too handsome and rich and too good too ring quite true, there is much believable reality here too. It's not your average romcom, there is much in here about the various relationships within a family: mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, a stale marriage and dealing with the aftermath of breast cancer or the in laws after the death of a beloved partner. The acting is solid throughout, Brosnan is, of course, always watchable, but the real star here, at least for me, is Trine Dyrholm. She is sensational as Ida. Loved her and loved her character. The script is also very good, never allowing the story to become too saccharine. Lovely film for a quiet night in or a rainy afternoon.

So I saw the trailer, thought it was funny so I brought it.Romantic comedy.... Hmmm except its hardly romantic or funny. In fact this is waaaaay so not a romantic comedy.Very heavy film.Actually found it a joyless watch.Mostly a predictable film about rather dysfunctional families.For me it's going straight into the not ever watch again bin.Giving this 2 stars is me being utmost charitable.

Perhaps I should have read all reviews before ordering. The "box" clearly states English Subtitles - which it does have every half an hour or so! The film is Italian, it is also in parts what could be Danish and sometimes in English or so I gather because I am totally deaf (hearing impaired ) so need English subtitles ALL THE FILM. The film does not have English subtitles. From what I saw the film is also rubbish anyway. I will not return it but give it to a charity shop - perhaps an Italian/Danish/English speaking person will like it!

A charming and quirky film with a very absorbing and interesting story line! There are various languages and very clear sub titles where necessary and that in no way intrudes on enjoyment of the film! My husband and I really enjoyed it and recommend it as a really good film with enough twists to keep your interest, not to mention the fabulous Italian scenery which is a joy to watch!

Very well acted, good story,stunning scenery, lovely music. Cried often( 75 year old male)
