The Takeaway Secret - Cook Book
I have not tried a lot of the recipes in this book but what I have tried I love. It was a good purchase. The Pita bread recipe was wonderful. The basic curry sauce I would make again, very good. I am impressed with the different ethnic food recipes represented in this book. I am going to recommend this cook book to my friends and family.

takeout at home
Takeout at it's best. You can now have all the flavor at half the cost and none of the worries. Thank you and enjoy your day.

Not all our usual favorites
The recipes that I recognize are great! But not all of the restaurants are from our area, so we've never eaten there. Some of the excitement is lost if there is nothing familiar.

A book for when your favourite takeaways are closed - or unreliable
I bought this for the lockdown. Although some of my favourite takeaways are starting to re-open, I thought I'd have a go at doing some of them - how hard can it be?Well, easy in some respects, hard in others. Doing some of these recipes will probably make you appreciate just how much prep goes into your local 'fast food'. Still there is always the concern that you don't know where the products come from, often the cheapest and fattiest stuff, or that which cooks the quickest. This way, you can see exactly what goes in and source your own meat/veggies.I have tried four so far - Sweet and Sour Pork, Lamb Doner, Whopper Style Hamburger and Fried Chicken (although I oven baked the latter). All really successful, and I am not a brilliant cook - just average. OK, there are no pictures, but why should you need them? If you are cooking your favourite takeaway, you should know what it looks like, and Kenny has tried to get the most authentic flavour. Just trust him, follow the recipe measurements, all will be fine. All of the above though involve a great deal of prep and work. I think it's worth it, but don't think you are making 'fast food' because it definitely isn't. Some are quite expensive, e.g Chinese Stock. Stock cubes are avoided. Prepare to source some herbs you have never used before.I was touched when I discovered that Kenny suffers from a agoraphobic problem which led him to write this book in the first place. Funny how enforced isolation has made this book invaluable for those who like cooking, and miss takeaways. I still call for a pizza delivery - but I may just try this next. Not for the gourmets perhaps, but definitely for the experimenters and those who like food - not pieces of finely seasoned offal on a lettuce leaf - but pub and cheap restaurant food and they fancy they could do better or at least, just as well.I highly recommend this book.

Great simple but tasty recipes
Loved this book. I had a copy a while back but got misplaced during a house Reno so I was delighted to get this book again.Have tried most of the recipes and they work ! Our favourites are the Indian dishes. Once you make the base sauce they are the closest thing to the restaurant you will ever make and it’s far superior to the ones you buy in a jar at the supermarket so we would definitely recommend this book

Get the first edition
I have both this edition and the first edition. The first edition is much better ( especially the spaghetti bolognese and banana muffins) the second edition has a lot of recipes that have been changed from the first edition, and not for the better. I recommend the first edition, not this second editon.

Fantastic
I don't often take the time to come back and write a review about anything I buy.The author of these two books (Im cheating and leaving the same review for both) is seriously underselling himself with the measley price I paid for my kindle editions. My partner has two teenage lads and every weekend we were getting the usual moans of can't we go KFC, Mcdonalds, Pizza Hut etc etc for dinner which was proving difficult due to our current economic position.I purchased these books with a view to trying out some of the boys favourite takeout meals and we are all amazed! The pizza sauce tastes amazing and has enabled us to have "make your own pizza" days where I make the dough and sauce first thing and everyone makes their own creation which allows us to have a great family time together instead of the usual arguments.Today we tried the southern fried chicken but made it into strips instead of pieces and the popcorn chicken to accompany it. To be compliemented by two fussy stepsons that they prefered this to the real thing is proof of the pudding indeed.Even the boys have said the author deserves more than the price I paid. Can't wait to carry on trying out the other recipes but so far we have tried and loved.Pizza sauce,Chicken burgers (like McChicken Sandwiches)Southern fried chickenBig Tasty Burgers (like BigMacs)Chicken Tikka (like indian takeaway style)Chinese Sweet and Sour sauce with Chicken Balls.Every recipe we have tried has been amazing.

Great for takeaway food, made from scratch
Given to a friend who always goes to takeaways instead of cooking and now he prefers these recipes to the actual takeaways. Apparently the KFC ones are the best. Definitely worth getting for that takeaway made at home meal. Only wish they had more photos in the book instead of just being writing, also if it has been glossy or wipeable paper it would help as they sit in the kitchen they are likely to get dirty.
