The Bones Of What You Believe Asia

I haven’t dipped my toes into much of the alternative EDM so take this review for what it’s worth: from someone not significantly acquainted with that style but who came across a few videos of Chvrches and was engaged by the songs and subtle emotions expressed by Lauren Mayberry as well as thoughtful subject matter that was the opposite of bubblegum pop.  I dipped my toe into the water with the purchase of their debut album and for whatever reason throughout several listens I lost much of the subtle emotional expressions that I thought I had heard when I watched the videos.  I like several of the songs (“By the Throat” which is buried at the end of the album is one of my favorites) but none of them grab and hold me or stay stuck in my head.  The songs that I have enjoyed more actually have a pairing of the female/ male vocals or are predominantly male (as on “Under the Tide”); some of the songs remind me of Coldplay.  The subject matter often deals with darker subjects like emotional and physical abuse and the songs often are possessed or imbued with a sad quality.  On the Asia Deluxe Edition you get your money’s worth.  It supplies 18 tracks, plenty of which are remixes (including 5 versions of “Recover”), and some new songs that sound a lot like other songs on TBOWYB.  While there is too much repetitive techno influence on some of the mixes on the extra disc the disc as a whole is very worthwhile.  I doubt that I’m going to follow this band with future releases unless I happen on really good deals but I’ve appreciated the venture and will give it an occasional spin every two years or so.  3.75 stars for the deluxe edition.  3.5 stars for the general release.

Despite the name typo, this is indeed the coveted Asian Deluxe Edition and it comes in a jewel case with a paper sleeve on 2 CDs. First one is the standard TBOWYB, while all the bonus tracks such as Now Is Not The Time is on disk 2.A must have for any CHVRCHES fan. Get it while it's available!!!!

Saw them at Music Midtown 2016 in Atlanta. Immediately rushed home to buy the album on Amazon. Worth it. Good live, good at home, good in the car. Can't stop dancing and singing along in the car now. Also bought their other album. Both are worth it.

Simply fantastic album. Every cut sounds like a hit!

HIGH QUALITY.

Excellent first album. I'd give it 5 stars but I am not impressed with the jewel this came in. The mounting ring was too stiff and will not release the CD easily. I cracked the first disc getting it out. Luckily my player was able to rip this without the tracks skipping.

The CD for part II broke when I took it out of the case for the first time. Very frustrating.

Premetto che ascolto questo album da ottobre 2013. E come già ho scritto per la recensione del loro secondo album EVERY OPEN EYE (per me ancora più bello) uscito questo anno, i CHVRCHES suonano la musica elettronica che ormai pensavo di non trovare più in circolazione. Ho aspettato di trovare una versione cd particolare: questa ASIAN deluxe ha un secondo CD con le tracce aggiuntive standard (molto bella strong hand) più tanti REMIX interessanti, anche se molti sono sempre della canzone RECOVER, che trovo piacevole ma non così tanto da dedicare tanti REMIX. Forse era meglio concentrarsi su the mother we share, gun, lies e we sink, per me dei piccolo capolavori di sinth, melodia ed energia. Quello che mi fa impazzire di questo gruppo (a parte la personalità e la presenza di Lauren Mayberry :)) è che realizzano album in cui tutte le tracce davvero ti coinvolgono anche a distanza di anni, infatti sono più di due anni che ascolto questo album almeno una volta a settimana, senza mai stancarmi. Grazie CHVRCHES, continuate ad essere indipendenti, altro vostro punto di forza!
