The most popular vocalist in Britain during the '30s, Bowlly even had his own radio series on NBC. These 20 tracks find him at his best: Love Is the Sweetest Thing; Night and Day; Happy-Go-Lucky You and Broken Hearted Me; Ooh! That Kiss; Love in Bloom, on the Sentimental Side; I'd Rather Be a Beggar with You, and more.

Close Second To Crosny
A vast majority of today's music mavens will not recognize the name of Al Bowlly, popular band singer of England. His voice sang the songs of the jazz Age and all in a great baritone range.I stumbled across a recording or two of his and Ray Noble (popular band leader)..hooked on his voice. He willingly professed admiring Bing's style and copied some of it....but, he wss his own manand popular singer...Al was killed in a Blitz on London in 1941.

Classic 1930's music
If you had to find a good example of what music in the '30's was like, then Al Bowlly's recordings would be perfect. Very heartfelt and sincere approaches to great songs. A must-have for the '30's era music fan!

Every Track a Delight
Having only recently discovered this artist (where have I been?) I am thoroughly enjoying this selection of his work. It is a mystery why he is not more well known in this country.

OLD POP IDOL
Al was big in his day but probably wouldn't cut it now. I enjoy these sweet old loves songs and, although they pre-date me a little, I still find them great to listen to. If you're a romantic, this may be your cup of tea.

Going back in time!
It's great to fantasize, thinking how it once was to dress up and go out to the clubs and listening & dancing to this music.

have always loved Al Bowlly
Well, being an old fashioned gal, music-wise, have always loved Al Bowlly, much to the chagrin of my husband! The CD is lovely; as expected, in fact, so doesn't disappoint. It has, of course, that crackly 1930's quality thought not onerously so, but what can be expected of music from that era that most probably can't be digitally re-mastered? Don't expect this CD to be so. It is a delight as it is, seemingly transporting you back to an era when the world was a much nicer place. All of Al's popular songs are here on this CD. Sit back with a schooner of sherry and indulge yourself!

A trip down memory lane
This music reminds me of my Mother . What a wonderful voice Al Bowlly has takes one back to the old pre 2nd world war films . My only gripe ( reason I bought this CD ) is the version of The Very Thought of You dosnt have the Ray Noble band accompanying Al, thankfuly there are other tracks that do . Other than that one gipe wonderful music .

Wonderful
Very happy with the product. This man had the most wonderful voice. If you want to evoke the nostalgia of the thirties then this is for you....a little scratchy but a fabulous orchestra playing and that voice.....a different age when things may not have been perfect but transportingly fabulous.
