a super book on swedish aviation.even after 50 years of collecting aviation books you think you have arrived at the end of the line.this book is an excellent summary on this country's aviation.Many pictures in colors.the information is great.you must have this book in your collection.in 3 years from now it will worth 15 times the investment. i have seen it with some of my books.this one is a winner...for sure.thank you Gary B

Note that this book, with a slightly different title but with the same ISBN has come out with what appears to be a new edition. Among the changes are a different cover from the earlier edition are an expansion to 264 page rather than the 192 of the previous edition.This book starts with the first fighters purchased by the Swedish Air Force, the Austro-Hungarian Phonix D.II, called by the Swedes J 1. They purchased a total of twelve aircraft. As new aircraft were purchased to upgrade the equipment 10 or 12 planes was the more or less standard number purchased. That's up to the J 4, a Heinkel HD 19, a float plane, of which they purchased only six. They continued in this manner until World War II buying planes from England, Italy, the US and perhaps others. During the war they expanded their quantities by purchasing 60 - 75 planes. Finally they began to build their own planes, designed and manufactured by Saab. After the war the J 21, a twin boom, pusher engine plane with quite attractive looks. This was followed by various other aircraft such as buying some P-51 Mustangs as the J 26 (our air force had offered them P-39s and F-5s - the Foto version of the P-38. The last piston engined plane was the J 30, de Havilland DH 98 Mosquitos.All in all, this is a rather complete book, and offers a good bit of information on each of these 30 aircraft, and the comments of the Swedish Air Force tend to be a little different than what you would expect from the USAF. Very interesting book.

Joyful picture book.If painting and markings of Swedish aircraft concerned. I recommend Kronmarkt from Alt om Hobby of Sweden. Also available are Swedish fighter planes monograph more detailed. This book is very joyful picture book. Everyone interest Swedish prop. fighterplane interested enjoyed it.

Mikael Forslunds "Swedish Piston Fighter Colours: 1926-1954" ist ein sehr ansprechend gestaltetes Fachbuch, das sich den propellergetriebenen Einsatz-Jagdflugzeugen der Schwedischen Luftwaffe bis zum Anbrechen des Jet-Zeitalters widmet. Zahlreiche Fotos, teils in Farbe und groß genug, dass man auch Details erkennen kann, sowie kolorierte Profilzeichnungen - z. T. von Einsatzmaschinen, die auch auf SW-Bildern zu sehen sind - ergänzen die Texte zu Einführung und Betrieb der jeweiligen Typen. Listen mit Seriennummern und Informationen zum Verbleib der einzelnen Maschinen, teils sogar, wieviele Flugstunden einzelne Maschinen in ihrer Karriere erreicht haben, runden dies ab.Zusätzlich findet der Leser bei den einzelnen Typen auch Hinweise auf die jeweils typischen Anstriche, verwendete Farben und die taktischen Codes und anderen Beschriftungen oder Markierungen. Ferner gibt es im Anhang Farb-Konversions-Tabellen für Modellbauer sowie Übersichten über verschiedene Schrifttypen und Informationen, wann sie für taktische Codes und Markierungen verwendet wurden, sowie einen Glossar Schwedischer Begriffe (und was sie in Englisch bedeuten).Gerade Modellbauer finden hier sehr viele, nützliche Detailinformationen. Aber auch die historischen Hintergründe (wann welcher Typ warum beschafft wurde, warum z. T. auch nicht, oder was die jeweiligen Alternativen gewesen wären) sind sehr interessant.Alldieweil, es gibt auch kritische Anmerkungen. Bei all der epischen Breite ist das Thema sehr speziell: es werden lediglich Jagdflugzeuge abgehandelt, und auch nur diejenigen Typen, die es in den aktiven Militärdienst schafften. Wichtige Schwedische Typen wie die B17 oder B18 (jeweils Bomber) oder die zahlreichen, sehr interessanten Jäger-Projekte wie die J23 oder J27, die zwar eine Typennummer erhielten aber nie in Hardware umgesetzt wurden, tauchen ebensowenig auf. Nicht einmal im Anhang.Ferner sind die zahlreichen Profil-Illustrationen zwar sehr schön gemacht, für den Modellbauer wären aber mehr Ansichten z. B. von oben oder auch der jeweiligen Gegenseite (gibt es vereinzelt) eine große Hilfe. Aber das ist Jammern auf hohem Niveau.Mein Fazit: ein sehr interessantes, hübsch aufgemachtes und informatives Buch, bei dem man sich durchaus wünscht etwas Ähnliches als Fortsetzung ins Jet-Zeitalter zu bekommen oder über Bomber- und/oder Aufklärungstypen aus der Pre-Jet-Ära. Daher: vier Sterne; eine gute Quelle, wenn man genau an diesem Thema interessiert ist. Ansonsten eher exotisch.

Very well researched. Excellent profiles. Comprehensive text. There is a useful colour table inside, but sadly colours are by press and not paint chips; however there are standard references.

The MMP thematic series of the books in big format and dealing with groups of aircraft of lesser known countries is in my view one of the most brilliant in the market know: well thought themes, well written , many photos and drawings, a high quality reproduction ( I think because they have had a lot of care in the paper choice, which not always happen). Also the presentation of several colour photos usually very difficult to find ( of old aircraft) adds to the high quality of the final result.>Also the many colour profiles are very well reproduced , which again does not happens always in similar books.I think MMP is one of the most interesting publishers in the market now, not only for the choice of the subjects but for the quality of the final product.

この本ではスウェーデン初の戦闘機J1（旧オーストリア-ハンガリー帝国のフェニックスDⅡ）からJ30（デハビランドDH98モスキートNF30）までのレシプロ戦闘機16機を入手の経緯、運用状況、塗装図で描くというものです。巻末にはスウェーデン機の塗装要領の概説もあります。　塗装図以外にもモノクロ写真やカラー写真も多くJ9（セヴァスキーEP-1-106、米国のP-35の輸出版）やJ11（フィアットCR42）は運用時のカラー写真もふくんでいます。　各機体の解説も面白いのですが、第二次大戦開戦後中立を表明したスウェーデンには戦闘機調達先として同じ中立国のイタリア、米国しか頼りにならず。機体の質から米国に前述のJ9とJ10（ヴァルティ48Cヴァンガード）を発注していたのですが1940年春のドイツ軍によるノルウェー侵攻戦中、傷病兵輸送の名目でドイツ軍の領内通貨を認めたことを中立違反と判断されJ9（引き渡し残り分）、J10の輸出が許可されないという事態になり、急遽イタリアからJ20（レッジアーネRe2000）を輸入するとともに国産のJ21（唯一の制式単発推進式レシプロ戦闘機）とJ22を開発し、以後兵器の一定部分は国産するというスウェーデンのポリシーが確立されてゆくことも読み取れます。J10、J22は最近発売された 戦場に現われなかった戦闘機 計画・試作機で終わった戦闘機 (光人社ノンフィクション文庫 1061) に収録されています。　本文も面白いのですが写真や塗装イラストも楽しめるので、良い本だと思います。 戦場に現われなかった戦闘機 計画・試作機で終わった戦闘機 (光人社ノンフィクション文庫 1061)
