The handle became detached at the bottom on lifting a full kettle of water surely this is not right ?

At the boiling point. The lid just popped off and just completely blew the lid off and it was all distorted. But I was quickly replaced with a new one. Which is fine. The lid is now completely different from the first one. So answering your question it was not the handle it was the lid at fault.

How dose the fitter bit goes on i have tryed maybe im be being stupid

There is no filter. The top opens when you turn the lid, then the water goes in direct no filter.

Then it's faulty and should be replaced. Mine is 3.5 months in and no problems.
