i just purchased a radiator that has a Build-in trans oil cooler. How does this differ? Would i need to purchase this also?

I Depends. What are you using your vehicle for? Day to day running around? If so then probably not. BUT if your using your vehicle for towing is the new radiator with the built in trans cooler meant for towing or extrema environments like Off roading? If you are just tooling around town and not doing much with your vehicle then a stock replacement radiator will be find BUT if you are towing/off roading/ racing then I would recommend it. I tow a jet boat with my vehicle and noticed that temps would go up when towing so I put this in and plugged off my old internal trans cooler and temps are great now. Hope this helps

IS this an add on or des it replace the stock one?

This can be either a supplement to your current cooler which in many cases is integrated into your radiator, or a supplemental cooler if you have none.I have a 2006 Nissan Xterra which along with several other models, is prone to a failure of the stock, shared radiator unit. When it fails, radiator coolant enters the transmission contaminating it and causing a catastrophic failure. I intend to bypass and cap the stock cooler where the lines come from the bottom of the radiator and use this unit for 100% of the transmission cooling. This is a small price to pay for eliminating the risk of cross contamination and a costly tranny replacement.
