Why are you suggesting to buy another lazy Susan with it

The one that comes with it is very cheap made out of plastic, when you consider the weight of a fully loaded unit you will have failure guaranteed. (I retrofitted I have 5 units) and they all turn smoothly. Get the 1000# capacity metal lazy Suzan and it takes some minor modification but you will not regret it. In regards to the rest of the unit Love it a big space saver

How many boxes does this come in?

As of Sept 2021, this tower comes in 2 boxes. One box with the base, shelves, top, instructions, and hardware, and a second one containing the longer pieces that make up the tower.

Are the shelves adjustable to fit other items(books, nick knacks etc.) ?

The shelves are adjustable. Typically set for blu-ray, dvd heights along with cd's. No reason you couldn't put a nick knack or two on the shelves and also on top of the tower if desired.
