Sturdy Lamp. 95% Metal Construction.
It cost less than my last desk/drawing/work light and is way better. It's made of all metal parts, except for the thumb/wing nut style things you turn to tighten the small bolts at the elbows, the pegs that the springs are mounted on, and the table clamp. I recommend buying a solid metal table clamp for it. They're cheap on Amazon. Those and the on/off switch are the only plastic parts. Especially like that the little arm that holds the lamp to the end of the arm is what looks like stainless steel, since it gets turned a lot when you're working to get the best light angle. The lamp almost turns 360ยฐ, it will turn up but not straight up to the ceiling. Highly recommend this lamp. Super affordable, gets the job done, and high quality construction. I looked at LOTS of swing arm lamps that cost more but unless you're loaded $ no need for anything fancier. This is the best most cost effective lamp on Amazon at the time I bought it a few months ago. It's seen loads of up/down/forward/back/turning and still looks & feels new.

Meets the three f's: function, function, function.
Had wanted a couple inches longer but this has proved very adequate. I have several in my garage/workshop. Make my own wall mounts (super simple) for increased arc. Like the functionality. Even better these days as the LED plastic bulbs are so light. The

Quite pleased, same design as the last 10 years but better materials
Replacing one which is 10+ years old which finally died. These are all almost exactly the same. This one appeared bettter from research and on arrival is a huge improvement. First, it is metal. The screws go through the metal and have nuts on them. Too many of the old ones were just pressure fit together at joints. The springs loosen over the years and so to the joints. Replace the springs with newer ones and for about a day it appears to hold the head up then the joints all let loose. This appears to fix these problems. The base which is plastic is much larger and sturdier than the ones in the past. I just put mine into the plastic base from my 10 year old one because it was screwed in and never failed. It fits almost perfectly. For kicks I've attached the new one using the clamp next to it and will use for awhile just to test it out. It seems the clamp which uses the same design as the the old ones is much solider now. Has rubber like under the base also to minimize impact on the surface and slip sliding around. This came with a 13W flourescent which is about a 60W equivalent. I put my 100W equivalent compact floursescent which is larger and heavier and weighted my old lamp down in the new one. It is holding it up well. Even turning the switch feels much better made than the old one. Only time will tell it it will last. 10 years out of the last one works for me. It gets 4 stars on day one and if it is holding up as well in a month it will get 5. For $14 I am quite pleased with this purchase

parts missing.... REPLACED
addendum to earlier rating: As I said I contacted the manufacturer via the e-mail on the instructions. I did not ever get a response. HOWEVER just a couple days ago I received a package from the company with the necessary parts to make the lamp totally functional. Lamp is basically OK. The only problem is that it is missing one of the spring retainers on one of the arms. Therefore one spring cannot be used. They are a piece of plastic that screws onto a threaded screw. You can see where it has pulled off as there are remnants of plastic on the threads. The shipping box itself has large enough openings that it probably fell out. OH, and it says comes with a 13 Watt CFL Bulb, but it arrived with an LED bulb, which in my opinion is better.

Not sturdy
I bought this for my art desk and for the price it looks nice but is not very sturdy. The shade around the bulb is supposed to snap on and thatโs it which seemed odd and not secure at all. It fell off about ten times and you have to be careful not to touch it which is annoying and makes it impossible to adjust. The lamp part is also supposed to attach to the clamp which is a separate piece you attach to your desk and this is the most fragile thing about it because there is no screw or anything holding the two pieces together. I thought maybe a piece was missing but no thatโs how they made it. Makes no sense at all. Looks nice but so many flaws in the design. Should be $10 considering what you are given.

Exact what Iโve been searching for
Iโve had this lamp for many years. I have one at each work station in my art room for about 10 years. Iโm not exactly easy on them either. In the last year the spring eventually broke but still worked. Screws fell out and lost so I glued it together. I fixed another part with a zip tie. What Iโm saying is that I really love this lamp that I rigged it till I no longer could. I searched and searched and all the others were led (which I hate because they give me headaches) or they have switches on the cord (I hate unkept cords). I ordered a lamp that seemed like it could work but it was comically small and the fixed light source was like looking directly into the sun. The only thing that could make this lamp better would be if it was a three way switch, but Iโm thrilled to have found the same lamp I originally purchased from Menards. I will say itโs more sturdy if you can remove the padding on the bottom and skip the clamp and screw it right into your table if you can.

I'd not have another if they paid me to take it. J.U.N.K. to the tenth power!
What a pain in the butt this piece of junk is. >.< I got a desk, chair, and this lamp from Studio Designs. We had the desk and chair assembled in under 15 minutes. They are great quality and look very nice. The lamp? Not so much. It arrived with missing pieces. I called the number on the "if you're missing pieces" flyer in the box and they promised to send the pieces. Still haven't gotten those yet. The paint on the lamp was all scuffed and scratched. The hood would not stay on no matter what (and yes we did follow the directions). It was also dented, which might be why it didn't fit. The bulb worked at least. I carried it to the office to attach to my new drafting desk, tightened the clamp, and it swung down the table! I looked- huh... nothing to hold it in place! I called the company back, thinking it was missing another piece since the bar of the lamp base has a cut-out that lines up with a hole in the clamp-- obviously meant for some "piece" to hold the lamp arm in place. Nope. They are just made that way. No magic piece to hold it in place. So, if you look at the lamp, it moves. Totally useless on a desk that adjusts vertically, don't you think? My husband who is a crafty and mechanically inclined genius spent thirty minutes rebuilding the dang thing so I could use it. Had we not been in a time-crunch for when I needed it, we'd have sent it back and got something nicer. If you aren't in a rush take your time and get a better lamp. If you're looking for a frustrating, broken, obvious piece of junk-- this is your lamp. Ugh.

will take incandescent bulb
Hard to find lamp with a ceramic outlet for bulb. we use these for chick brooding and these will take up to 100 watt incandescent bulb which most will not. Well made and is easily adjustable.

with absolutely everything i'd expect from a great light. It's bright
This light is the king for its price range, with absolutely everything i'd expect from a great light. It's bright, it has insane maneuverability, it's long, and it holds the light in place well. The only gripe like others have said, is that it's pretty easy to knock the arm loose from the clamp, which can result in a broken lightbulb. As long as you're careful about actually lifting the piece, you'll be solid.

nice long extension which I needed
nice long extension which I needed. only complaint may be the globe can come off rather easily but not really a problem if you grab above that part of it. Also the bottom where it attached to the clamp there doesn't seem to be any way to make it not swivel there but i got stronger add on clamp and it has a set screw for that so no biggy. Bulb that comes with it is plenty strong enough at my computer. All in all though very pleased with it for sure.

Clamp is not sturdy
I purchased two of these lamps, and set the second one aside for later on. The plastic clamp, as has been noted by more than one reviewer, is flimsy and does not allow the lamp to extend without it falling over. I found a sturdy metal one and attached it to a table, inserting the lamp into it. I didn't pay much attention to the fact that the clamp opening was wider than the lamp, and swung the lamp around with abandon for about a year before noticing that it was drooping. Well, the bottom part of the lamp that inserts into the clamp came off! I'm not sure if I can find a use for the lamp now ... I put the second lamp into the clamp, surrounding it with cotton wadding so that it's firmly inserted and held and doesn't have extra room to move, except to swivel. And am handling it gently. So far so good.

Good lamp....period.
Old fashion design but I am sure it will last a long time. I added a LED bulb and that is why I like this style. Perfect for the work bench or a desk top. I replaced a similar lamp that was 25 years old...hope this will last even 10 years. Built in LED's look good and work well...but when those LED's burn out and they will...you have to buy another lamp and the design you purchased may no longer be available... with this style I only have to replace the bulb.

Great for the price!
Bought a similar model at Staples, which had horrible hinge tighteners. Returned that and ordered this here, which arrived very quickly. Although very similar looking to the Staples model, this was of much better quality. No hinge problems and even comes with a light bulb. Looks great on my desk. Four stars because it is better than i expected for the price, but there's better, more expensive models out there. Overall im quite happy.
