Treasure Island: A BabyLit® Shapes Primer (BabyLit Classics)

Bought these for my daughter’s baby shower. Very appropriate and durable for a young baby who might be teething, teaching shapes, numbers and body parts.

I love Robert Louis Stevenson and our boys are in to pirates right now so this has been on my list for a while. We got this for our two-and-a-half-year-old as a Christmas gift from his brothers. He LOVES it (and so does everyone else).As with just about all of the Baby Lit books, the illustrations are tasteful and colorful, with good contrast. Clever, layered detail and text allow you to work with the story on different levels to keep it fresh at each reading and with multiple age groups. Our children also love to read these by themselves. In this one, each new page has a shape faced with an illustration that incorporates the shape in different ways and shows a character or object from Treasure Island. The recipient and his five-year-old brother love to play a game where they name the shape, then point to all the places in the illustration where they see the shape. The two-year-old knew some of his shapes before, but he's mastered everyone in this book since Christmas, including some of the less obvious ones like "crescent," "diamond," "oval," and "cross."

We probably have about 10 of these books (Midsummer Night's Dream, Romeo & Juliet, Treasure Island, Jabberwocky, Sleeping Beauty, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Odyessy, Sherlock Holmes, Les Mis) and we plan on ordering more. Our son LOVES all of these books- the colors and pictures are really vibrant and large, and I love that each book teaches different things (colors, shapes, numbers, etc). I think they're all wonderful, and we just ordered another one. They're fun for us too as parents, because we know the source material and it's fun to see how they use classic novels and stories and bring them to young children. Definitely recommend all of these!

I bought this as a baby gift for a co-worker and it looked great! Super cute and sturdy. My co-worker loved it!

While this is not my favorite of the BabyLit books I've purchased, my 18 mo olds like it. When I read the shapes, I use my finger to trace around the pictures and reinforce the shape. My girls find this very interesting. I can see us reading through this as a learning tool for many months to come, because as they get older I can describe more about the illustrations. One thing to note is that the printing is intentionally "fuzzy" (for lack of a better term) on each book page. I thought this was a defect at first but then I looked back at the book cover photo on Amazon & realized it's supposed to be that way, lol.

A fun and attractive board book!Pros:- Really well illustrated- Educational- Part of a set if you're looking to collect!Cons:- I love a story with a good cadence, this is just a "shape primer"- The Treasure Island excerpts feel are difficult to read in my baby bedtime tenorThis likely won't be a bedtime favorite. If you are really high aesthetic, you will appreciate illustrations (and maybe the series). If your child is really into pirates, this will also be a big win. I just wish it was done with a little rhyme or cadence.

Love this whole series, this one is not my favorite. Some of the shapes are hard for little eyes to discern (ie. white circle on lightly textured light yellow background). When you are trying to drive home the subtle difference of an oval and a circle to the under 2 set - it makes it a bit more difficult. They do repeat the initial shape on the next page in context, which helps, but you would think the main page for the shape would be just as easy.

This isn't my favorite book in this series but it's a cute introduction to both Treasure Island and some more exotic shapes like Ovals. My boys are very taken by Long John Silver. I love the whole concept of this series. My favorite is the Sherlock Holmes one, it's great fun to read.

Its not really introducing your child to classic literature other than the title. Its essentially a shapes book which is great but i thought it might have told a watered down version of the story. It would have been helpful to have a look inside option as i wouldn't have bought it.

The item has arrived twice with white speckles all over it now. Very disappointing. There must be something wrong with he print run I am receiving.

If you're a lit junkie and have a baby, these are amazing! I now have 7 different ones and love them all!(Just a note ... I haven't purchased any of the colour primer books as they use the American spelling of 'colour' and I'm from England - nothing wrong with it, just thought it was worth a mention).

Estos libros son un encanto. Hay que entender que todos no son como libros tradicionales. Este trata de enseñar figuras a los pequeños de una forma original. Es importante reconocer que eso es su fín, y no contar la historia. Obviamente consigue dicho objetivo utilizando elementos del argumento del libro La Isla de Tesoro. Las ilustraciones son ideales y a mi hija de un año le encanta.

Too basic for my 2yo. No story, just pictures and single words.
