In condensing the data, it got lost in translation.
I recently purchased Inner Alchemy from the Stars by Mantak Chia, but it doesn't have calendars included and instead it sends you to their website for a free partial calculation or a paid full report, so I was a little disappointed that I wouldn't really be doing any real charting, i.e. couldn't do it for others in my family. So, I went searching for another book that I could use to do reports, and found that I had two choices, this one or Joey Yap. I chose this one, knowing it had typos per the reviewer's site, but it still sounded more up my alley than Joey Yap's.There are 2 or more typos...not the end of the world...but here are some of the more confusing things I found:Page 38 - There is short hand code the author tried to use, such as + for yang and - for yin, and letters to represent elements. What's really confusing is when it isn't used properly. For example, two out of three tables on page 38 have "+" to represent yang and "-" to represent yin, and then actually says "yang" or "yin" on the tables as well, so it's supposed to list + - + - and say "yang yin yang yin", but Instead shows + + + + and says "yang yin yang yin". Again, still not the end of the world...Page 42 - In the example heavenly stem chart, if you look up the birth hour in the time chart, it says E+, meaning Yang Earth, and instead shows the E+ and says Yin Earth. Confusing but not the end of the world either...Page 15, 28-29 - For the day branches, I'm confused just on the Rat and the Pig. For example, Wikipedia says Rat is Yang Water and Pig is Yin Water, but Mantak Chia's Inner Alchemy book says the opposite, and in this book, the table says correct Qi is what Mantak Chia says, but then later in the book it says Rat is Yang Water and Pig is Yin Water, like Wikipedia says. But when I look at other branches, like Dragon, I don't see that inconsistency between Wiki, Mantak or Anne. So What's up with Rat and Pig? It's sort of significant, because they're quite opposite. In reading some sample pages of an older book (with calendars up to 2020) by Susan Levitt, she re-tells Taoist stories about the branch animals. Unfortunately, Susan's book doesn't really spend a lot of effort on Yin/Yang, but it sounds like Rat is Yang and Pig is Yin from the way the stories go, rat being more aggressive and pig more quiet and subtle.I do enjoy seeing the Chinese, and the tables in Anne's book often show English and Chinese, but in one or two tables it's just Chinese, so I found myself trying to look up the Chinese to verify what the English would be. Lots of back and forth, which the book is huge and won't just lay open, so it's awkward and frustrating.Don't expect much narrative in the book, it's basically 85% data and charts. Anne's book did help me understand the solar time, lunar time, UTC etc. a little better, but I think I could've found some of that info online if I had looked into it. I appreciate the effort made by the author, but this just isn't the right book for me.I am going to try a used copy of the older book by Susan Levitt that has calendars up to 2020. Maybe Susan will come out with a new calendar or I can find something online for free. I really wish Mantak Chia would sell a 10,000 year calendar, but from what I saw of the sample pages in Susan's book, it gives great Taoist stories to help you really picture the different personalities represented, giving more depth while still including the calendars I'm after. I've also enjoyed another older book called "Three Lives".Happy charting!
