Step Reebok Circuit Challenge

Fat Burning Workout
This is a high intensity workout. Walks through the new moves and easy to follow after doing it a couple times. The workout is broken up into three 10 minute segments and a cool down. The cool down features great stretches and is very useful. The instructor also teaches how to watch your heart rate and pay attention to body needs. Dated in videography and style, but still a great workout.

STEP REEBOK:CIRCUIT CHALLENGE [VHS] -1994 -GEN MILLER- When workout tapes were REAL!!!
I recognized this Reebok Step workout video because I owned it "once upon a time". The date on the jacket cover shows 1994. Yes. I was 44 yrs. of age that year and was an A.F.A.A. certified Aerobics Instructor & A.F.A.A. certified Personal Trainer. It was my habit, back then, of purchasing many VHS videos for inspirational "moves" & "combinations" I might use in teaching my own classes. THIS very video was #1 in my collection. If you want THE BEST of the BEST - you simply can not go wrong with any workout by the famous GIN MILLER. I was fortunate to attend more than one of her "Master Classes" in person. She is a non-disputed "Queen of STEP" in my opinion. This specific STEP workout is thorough, fun & challenging. Many "moves" can easily be modified to your own personal level of fitness. Modifications are shown & explained, making this video fine for beginners to more experienced exercisers. Production of this video is excellent & holds your attention throughout. Gin's "cues" on what & when to do the next move is "on spot". If you have attended Step classes, you know how important proper "cueing" is. It can make or break your "class experience". I was delighted to see this workout video was still available for purchase, especially in VHS format. I recently purchased a combo TV/VHS, (all in one), unit, (again something from the past), to use for home workouts. I am 72 yrs. old. Even though I get to the gym 3/5 days/week, I wanted to re-visit my past with the addition of favorite videos that worked for me. Just for fun. Also for cold, winter days when leaving home was not favorable here in the Rochester, N.Y. area. I thank the seller: YOUNGSTOWN GOODWILL for having this workout video for sale here on amazon. The price was amazing for the quality of this item. They described it as brand new, in original packaging. And so it was! Highly recommend this video. I highly recommend this Seller. If you find it in dvd format or blue-ray, DO buy this. You will be very pleased you did. It's the REAL THING among ALL Step workouts.

Still the Best Step Video
This video in the 90’s was a huge hit when I was in college as a fitness class. I had been wanting to find this again after all these years to restart my fitness routine. This video had a huge impact on my fitness back then and hopefully will again.

This WILL give you a total workout
In order to know what to expect, I like to preview my workout tapes before actually performing the workout. I found that to be particularly beneficial in the case of the Circuit Challenge. As J. Urban mentioned in his review from March 2006, the dvd has been copied directly from VHS is not divided into chapters in a manner that allows the user to skip a workout segment and end up at the beginning of a new segment(such as skipping a warm up). One must either hold down the fast-forward button, or skip chapters then fast-forward/rewind to get to the desired portion. In what would be the first chapter, it begins with a short Reebok advertisement (GAH! Ads on my workout tape!) followed by an intro by Gin Miller saying "If you are viewing Circuit Challenge for the first time, fast-forward to the end of the workout to review the important information in the pre-workout instructions". Okay, so I had to figure out where the end of the workout was in order to locate the important information. I shall share this little tidbit of with you: the important information can be found by skipping to Chapter 12 to the end credits. Then, fast-forward through the credits to "Pre-Workout Instructions". Obviously, this information is best suited at the beginning of a workout. However, since I chose to preview the dvd and was forewarned by J. Urban's review about the lack of chapters, I was prepared to spend a little time looking for it.Directly following the opening message and the introduction, it goes right into the workout.NOTE: The first thing I noticed is the workout studio was lit with red/pink lighting making it appear as though the color was off on my television. I got used to it after a few minutes and it didn't seem so odd.As for the workout, Gin Miller is an excellent instructor. She speaks clearly and gives plenty of warning on what move she has planned. For low-impact options, there is one person in the group (Valerie) demonstrating alternate moves. Gin also makes sure to call out warnings to let the user know when NOT to follow her on the more difficult moves but to follow Valerie's example instead. This is a challenging total body workout. It tones muscles, burns fat, and is a full cardio workout as well. It combines step, resistance tubes, hand weights, as well as abdominal workouts. Every ten minutes or so, Gin slows the workout for a moment to do a target heart rate range check. This is helpful to know when to pick up the pace or to switch to the lower-impact moves. The workout moves quickly and has a lot of variety so the user will not get bored. I recommend this to anyone who wants to have a fast-paced workout that takes care of fat burning, cardio, and toning all on one dvd.Items needed for this workout: a step platform, hand weights, and an exertube.

Other Gin Miller workouts are better
This video, done with Reebok branding, seems more designed to show off what the Reebok step and other equipment can do. The portions of the segments are too short for you to feel like you can really get going. As soon as you get into the rhythm of one thing, she is asking you to stop and do something else. As a guide for step teachers who want ideas for kinds of moves they can do, it would be very useful. For getting in a good workout, it's so-so.
