Holds Pill Well. Blade Stays Sharp a Long Time.
I bought this seven years ago. It still works well. The flexible grips hold the pills well.I recommend this.

Works well enough
So, nothing is made as well as it used to be so unless you are willing to pay 20 times the price, you're never going to replace your old pill cutter you've had for 20 years with a similar product. I gave this 5 stars keeping that in mind and comparing it with other pill cutters in its price range and work load, so to speak. With those in mind, it's one of the best I've seen in a long time.Pros: Super sharp, rubber wings hold pills in place better without slipping, stays shut so if you wanted to carry pills in it, you could. Well made, sturdy. The clear casing let's you make sure the pill is centered.Cons: Having rubber wings means you have to make sure the pill is actually centered. The dust from the cut pills doesn't brush off the rubber as easily as it does from plastic. Being made of hard plastic means that if you drop it on a hard floor, it will probably snap in two/break easily.

Pretty good, but I found a better one.
This pill splitter works very well, and the halves of a split pill drop easily into the storage compartment. It handles fairly large pills. However, I take one pill that is a bit too big for this splitter (2.3 cm or just over 7/8 inch). Even if I jam it in there, it won't fit entirely in the orange splitting area, so the blade doesn't quite reach the far side of the pill. It still splits the pill, but not quite as cleanly.I stopped by a CVS Pharmacy and picked up their CVS brand splitter, which I believe they also call a Deluxe Pill Splitter (about the same price as this Apex model; photos attached; not available on Amazon as of 5-23-15). My largest pill fits easily into the CVS splitter, and there's a slide that easily centers any size pill and holds it in place while it is being split (this Apex model has no such slide, but relies on the orange material being a bit rubbery/tacky). The only thing I like better about this Apex model is that you can tilt the splitter and have the halves fall into the storage compartment. With the CVS splitter, you have to dump the halves out into your palm or a dish, wait until you're done splitting pills, and then store the split pills in the storage compartment (which is shallower than the Apex compartment, but barely deep enough). If you're going to store your pills in a pill box anyway, I'd go with the CVS splitter for easier splitting of larger pills. But if you only have one kind of pill to split and want to leave them in the Apex storage compartment, and you don't have any pills too big to fit, then this Apex splitter is fine. If you're going to be carrying it around with you, it's also narrower and shorter than the CVS splitter.

The Best Pill Splitter I Have Ever Used!
I have tried dozens of pill splitters and nothing I have bought and used is better than this. Take a look at the photo - the new one on the left is the one I just bought and received. The one on the right is from 2006! I have dropped it hundreds of times, lost then found it in my car and everywhere else, stepped on it, thrown it against the wall, and carried it in my pocket in the cold and heat - and it STILL works. The blade is just now starting to get dull and only occasionally crushes softer tablets and compounds.I carry this in my pocket whenever I go out with my daily supply of meds. This little splitter is one of the best products I have ever bought anywhere or at any price. I have split thousands of pills in it and saved major dollars using it.I rarely go "gaga" over anything I buy anymore, but this is a real gem. No, you won't be able to carry a three-day inventory of pills in the small chamber, but that is not what it is intended to do. Those complaining about the chamber being to small don't get what this is supposed to do. It saves you money by being able to have your doctor prescribe higher dose tablets so you can split them and save. I have even quartered some tablets with this! You can also take smaller doses when you are unsure about a drug and its effects. (All drugs scare the beans out of me.)Buy this - it goes far beyond what any splitter is designed to do and the price it is now is actually cheaper now than when I bought my first one. That makes it an insane bargain. I would pay four times the price, and the other splitters I have tried from $1 to $30 aren't even close to the quality of this one.

Great cutter for cutting small pills into quarters
This is the one, assuming you can bear the lack of a blade cover. I tried another from Amazon first (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000EGKTGK) and when that broke within a week, I was in a jam and tried another two from my local drug store. Those appeared to be designed well based on appearance, but obviously hadn't been tested as many problems emerged as soon as I began cutting. This was my fourth try and it has exceeded my expectations:- The tray is easy to use, meaning it's easy to center the pill prior to the cut and fairly easy to collect the pieces- The blade is the sharpest of the four which means the cut is instant and quiet instead of a loud pop after applying enough pressure- There's reasonable room in the collection bin and the pills stay put until the cutting is doneBecause the grip on the pill is pretty strong (which is part of what makes cutting so easy), sometimes I have toothpick nearby to free the pill after the cut and guide it to the collection tray. It's easier for me than trying to dig in with my fingers. I use it to cut already very small pills into quarters and it's the only one I've found so far that performs well enough to use. I bought another in case the blade ever dulls but no other points of failure are particularly apparent. That said, the blade is exposed moreso than other 'safety cutters' and it might be possible to slice yourself if you are in a hurry or not paying attention. Given that the protection mechanism on the those units is typically the first point of failure, I've decided to take my chances with the exposed blade.

Doesn't cut pills cleanly
Small pill has too many crumbly pieces after using cutter. Found another brand that cuts cleanly.
