Mine needed modification
This kit needed some modification. My Alpine radio would not fit into the adapter quite right. I had to take a little time and carve out one corner of the plastic as they are rounded where the front of the unit sits, not square. A little patience, a sharp knife and I was able to square up one corner without damaging the plastic. The side brackets are a very tight fit, don't force them into position or they might break, be patient. The only other thing is that this kit can't be turned so that the radio is on the bottom. This may be because of my particular application. My other one broke because there is no support under the small box in my application but it did last about 10 years. I tried to turn it upside down so that the radio would support the box but the brackets didn't line up with the mounting holes on the vehicle

Do your research!
I did as much research on this item as I could without actually seeing this in person. I do like the product and the company who makes it, Metra. I only wish I could have seen it in person first. Now, why I feel this way--I have an older model Alpine head unit that has worked flawlessly for about 6 years and it is a flip down model with a detachable face plate. I liked this ISO mount kit for my Alpine better than the other model that you have to use the cage and bend the tabs to keep it in place. An ISO mount is the type that has the side plates with multiple holes used to screw your head unit to the install kit for those who don't know what ISO is, personally I like this type mount better. My only issue with the kit was that I had do modify it (with a Dremel Tool) because the flip down would not flip down properly due to the distance of the curved front portion of the kit. It stuck out too far and would not allow the flip down to make it's full travel downward. I also had to modify the inside portion a bit in order to get the front face of the head unit out far enough so, I didn't have to cut off the outside curved portion in front of the kit. I know, it's a little hard to imagine but, all in all, it did not fit properly without modification for a flip down style head unit.I don't think there really are not too much detachable face flip down head units around much anymore, although I'm not sure about that since I haven't had to shop for one for over 6 years! Just be ready to do a little massaging of the kit or somehow get one in front of you with your deck in hand, to see if it will fit properly or you may have to do an exchange/return. Most people who know how to install a head unit these days should know how to do a little modifications to get things to fit. Good luck.

Nice kit but may require modification for some common Single DIN units
This is a nice sturdy kit with a factory look. The assembled kit itself fits fine in my 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. However, as others have noted it is slightly too small to accommodate many common single DIN units, including my Alpine UTE-62BT. This is a little weird, since all of these units should be more or less the same - maybe Metra's tooling for this part is a bit out of spec. Anyway, I VERY gently used a rotary tool to widen the rear opening about a millimeter on the upper left and right edges (careful if you do this, the plastic in this area is thin). After doing this, perfect fit. I noticed some others must have run into this problem and just placed the radio further back, but that didn't look good to me. See pic for my final fit with the radio itself flush against the inside plastic; note that I did not need to modify any visible surfaces. I have also used the Scosche unit (which did not require any modification) in the past. This unit is sturdier and looks nicer. So, good kit if you're willing and able to carefully modify.

Those claiming the radio wont fit didn’t read directions.
This is a great kit. I’ve installed hundreds of them in my 5 years as a mobile audio installer. It does fit all single DIN radios, despite what some are claiming. With this kit you do not use the cage/metal sleeve or the plastic trim ring that come with the radio. You toss those out and instead you use the iso screws that come with the radio and screw the radio to the brackets on the left and right of this kit. There is adjustment in them so you slide the radio up against the back side of the mounting kit and make sure it’s straight and then snug them down. Word case, with some radios you might have trouble removing your faceplate. However I’m not aware of anyone who actually even removes their faceplates any more, and if you do have this issue, it’s nothing that shaving a teeny tiny bit of plastic off the hook on your radio face can’t take care of.Good stuff.

there is no way a stereo can fit in this mount kit
the opening for the radio to stick through tapers down to below the width of the front of the stereo. CLEARLY, IF I CUT AWAY ENOUGH MATERIAL TO FIT THE STEREO I WILL HAVE UGLY HOLES VISIBLE

Looks Factory Solid One Piece kit
Great install kit for a 2003 silverado. Did not need to do any trimming for my Pioneer MVH-291BT. Head was very snug in this dash kit. I liked the mostly one piece construction of this dash kit. Fills in seamlessly into the double din hole. Looks factory. The Scosche dash kit, i had purchased before this, was more expensive and had lots of gaps. The only thing i did not like is the CD tray has two holes in the back and the bottom edge. If you store a small item less than 1/2 inch, you may loose it into you dash. You could block these before install but was not a concern for my application. If you are adding an aftermarket radio to a 2003 silverado without Bose system/onstar, you may need a new wiring harness interface to retain factory chimes as the factory radio controlled the safety chimes. I purchased a scosche GM2000a, it includes the new radio harness and interface with speaker to retain the factory chimes.

Great radio mount! Bad Instructions!
Fits just fine in the dash of my '02 Chevy Cavalier. The plastic appears to be good quality, and it matches the interior well. I really like the texture on the front part of the radio insert, as well as the storage compartment under the radio. The only flaw I have found is that the contents of the under radio storage compartment will fly out sometimes. It seems to need some kind of no-stick pad in there. Also the instructions are pretty hard to follow, at least for my Cavalier. Had to spend some time just trying to figure out how it goes together, its easy once you take a minute to figure it out.

Works in my 2004 GMC Sierra
Fits nicely, looks good. The space below the receiver is a nice size to hold a phone.

Not even wide enough for a single DIN deck??
Edit: I was able to screw my deck into the side of the mounting brackets with short screws before installing into vehicle as the kit wasn't' big enough to fit my single DINI'm highly disappointed with this purchase. I was very excited when it came in the mail, to only find out that the dimensions of this trim kit don't even fit the width/height of a single DIN deck (what it's made for). Do not waste your money, I'm now out 30$ because of this. Also, it dosen't even have mounting screw holes to screw into the place of your car's stock unit. All in all, this product is a big disappointment and a waste of money.
