Good coffee press, but definitely NOT vacuum insulated.
The outside of the press gets warm as soon as you pour hot water into it. A truly vacuum insulated vessel will not get noticeably hot or cold outside according to the liquid inside. Consequently, coffee stay hot for 45m or so, but not hours, as you would get in a truly vacuum insulated vessel.Otherwise, this is a well made coffee press and it is a great size - you can get x4+ decent size mugs of coffee out of it before you have to make another pot! I wasn't really expecting a vacuum insulated press and lid for that price, but was hoping...

THIS IS THE ONE!
This stainless steel coffee press is amazing. I had a coffee press many years ago which was made of borosilicate glass. It worked fine until it broke splashing boiling water everywhere. I gave up the idea of a coffee press until a couple years ago. Here at Amazon I found a stunning array of stainless coffee presses. I chose X-Chef because I liked the sleek modern design and also it was quite a bit cheaper than others. Also, the capacity is about 48 oz. I use a small brush to clean the filter after every use. I find the press itself is easy to hand wash. The press mechanism is removable by unscrewing the nob at the top counterclockwise, which allows easy cleaning and changing of the filter.I researched Amazon and found a link for extra coffee filters. French Coffee Press Replacement Filter : 2 Premium 4" Reusable Stainless Steel Metal Filters for Bodum French Press Coffee Makers I highly recommend this coffee press!

Nice French Press but wish it was larger.
It's a nice french press. Just keep in mind that when they say it makes 12 cups they are not talking about cups in the sense of the US Customary measurement System ( USCS: 8 oz = 1 cup)...they are talking about "cups of coffee" which has no agreed upon size/volume. This container holds 51 ounces so if it makes 12 cups that would mean each cup is 4.25 oz. Less when you consider that 15% or so of the volume is taken up by the pressed grounds. I dont know anyone that has a cup that small LOL. You should get about 45 oz of brewed coffee or a little less than 6 USCS cups. If you are like me you are using a much larger cup...mind are 16 oz. I get almost 2 3/4 mugs per brew from this french press. Wish it was bigger.

Developed rust after a few uses.
I loved this product initially, but after having it for less than one week, it developed these rust lines that I cannot get rid of. I am even drying it immediately after washing, and it is still developing rust. I’m not happy, and am sending it back.

Not a true 50 oz
So let me start off by saying I was really looking forward to this French press. We drink a lot of coffee in the house and I find myself even more so with all the extra free time I have due to recent world events😉I bought a French press, much my surprise now 5 years ago now and it has been a solid workhorse. I wanted French press that was larger so I could be one large pot when I have company or I just want more coffee throughout the day without having to make more .My original French Press is a 34 Oz and insulated. When I pulled the new French press out of the box and put it next to original one as you can see they look almost the same size and height and width. I got my trusty measuring cup out.Put 34 oz of water in it poured it into my old French press and it goes right to the top of the line where are you always fill it too. Side note, I fill my press right to the brim and then let it steep, Stir It, and top it off after the coffee settles. Then I took the 34 0z and poured into new "50 Oz" press, it didn't fill it to the brim. Filled another 16 oz of water in my measuring cup and put it into 50 oz press and it fills right at the top almost... over the edge. So yes it IS 50oz, my issue with it is that you cannot use it to its full capacity because how the lid/top is designed.Even though it's new shiney, I sent it back and I stayed with what I know is tried-and-true because I didnt get the gains in was hoping for.Am I being nit picky, maybe. Could I have kept and just made 2 pots at a time, sure.....but that's MY business😉😁

Excellent french press
When the glass broke on our french press we decided to try a stainless steel one. So far we're happy. Due to complications not worth going into here, we ended up with both a 1L and 1.5L version. Each has it's advantages. The 1L version fills two large mugs, just as the glass one did, and the filter parts from the glass one are interchangeable and provide spare parts. The 1.5L size allows us to make extra if we have company or want a little extra. Usually we just fill it part way to make our usual amount. We're fairly new to french press coffee having used a single cup paper filter drip method for years. Since we use a blade grinder rather than a burr grinder we still drip the coffee through a paper filter after steeping it in the french press. French press purists would consider that sacrilege but we don't miss the sediment and still get the fuller bodied flavor from allowing the coffee time to steep.Although price was a major factor in selecting the X Chef stainless steel french press, Oak Leaf LLC, the company that supplies them to Amazon has provided extraordinary customer service, as has Amazon.

Excellent so far
So far I am delighted with this carafe. It looks quite elegant and seems to be quite sturdy. I was bit concerned after reading some of the problems a few people had but since I use it to make Cold press coffee I think it is ideal. I drink one very large cup of coffee for breakfast and this big pot is enough for two days. I do have one suggestion and that is that the directions be re-rewritten to the specifications of this coffee maker. It did not make sense that day instructions start by telling you to make a 6 ounce cup of coffee considering this is a 51 ounce container. I have not measured up to the top but it seems slightly less then 51 ounces since I Measure 40 ounces of water and it comes to within an inch of the spout. That is a moot point since it does exactly what I had hoped and I am no longer worried about breaking the carafe.
