The Life and Times of the Ant

What an inspiring Hugh amount of Ant info here! Super job!
I enjoyed all of this big load of ant in information. What I didn't like though that I was not always able to make the area(s) that wished to read to pop up to make the font info easier to re read though. But Lord willing I wish to keep this in my Kindle library for in no as I am writing perhaps a series for children using ants as characters in a Christian an adventure story series. But because this eBook is loaded for bear of info this is why I have given this 5***** & wish to recommend this to kids on up that just may be curious too about these social insects. I received this book for free and in return, here is my honest review. Great research work!By Sunny.

My son loves it.
First, why did I never learn ants live for over 20 years? I'm not okay with that. But, this books Is pretty great if you've got an insect or ant lover in your house. My son is only two so I dont read all of the information on each page but a little bit each. He has autism so he prefers the realistic pictures, which I greatly appreciate this book for having. And the detailed images. Well worth it.

Valuable book for adults and children alike
The illustrations and format of "The Life and Times of the Ant" signal that it is a book for children, so I was a little worried about how my 13 year old grandson would react to it as a gift. On the other hand, I could tell him that as a Biologist, I was delighted with the book and learned a lot from it--or at least I was reminded of many things that had become hazy since my student days. He does like the book.I think the text is simplified, and the vocabulary is controlled to accommodate younger readers, but in my opinion that turns out to be a plus for an adult reader who just wants to enjoy knowing more about the natural world. The writing does not proffer childish attitudes toward nature or an attempt to make things "cute." Though engaging, it does not insult the intelligence and seriousness of either adults or children.

Our entire family loved this book!
I got this along with a gel ant farm (lighted) for my son's 8th birthday. He was skeptical of the farm and the book. But I started reading it to him as we drove home from his birthday dinner at KFC. All of my children (4 at that moment), my aunt and my husband all found the details of the book fascinating. We all learned a lot. And now when we see ants, we can give details we read in this book. It is packed full of information, and without the divisions of photos and straight facts, it would have been boring. But, it is interesting as the artist successfully created art to keep the flow of text moving along. Who knew ants could be so interesting. Thanks to the seller for shipping quickly too! :)

A fascinating intro to ANTS!
Children will luv this, and it's entertaining even for adults too! The one on BEES is another fav (but be sure Amazon hasn't confused the BEE book and the picture of another book's cover?)

Humor Creates Interest, Leads to Learning
My son is not an insect person. But I looked at this book and found it very funny and very clever. The worker ants wear construction helmets, the queen wears a tiara, you get the idea. I brought it home from the library with a bunch of other books on sea life and outer space, my son's usual topics. After initially rejecting the Ant book, he picked it up and then couldn't put it down. We ended up buying it. He loves it. He takes it in the car and is now full of all kinds of fun facts about ants. He has even become interested in bees and other insects as a result. Who knew. Just goes to show you that a funny and clever presentation can get a kid interested in just about anything.

Great mentor text!
I use this book as a mentor text in my 4th grade ELAR classroom. Not only does it teach students some amazing facts about ants and the colonies they live in, it also has example after example of text and graphic features! I use this book to show how authors use charts, graphs, timelines, diagrams, illustrations, etc. in their writing. So even though the topic seems more related to science, I find it an incredibly useful tool in my reading class, as well.

It was educational and fun to read
I purchased this book along with a few other bug themed items for a six year old's birthday party. His party was bug themed so naturally we searched the internet for anything and everything to do with insects. His mother and I both are homeschooling mothers. We look for any teaching opportunity. This book was well written, and very informative. It was educational and fun to read. It is not only a great book for kids to read but also a great teaching tool for homeschool mothers and teachers alike.
