Shades of Earl Grey (A Tea Shop Mystery)

Tea Shop
This is the third book in the tea Shop Mysteries. When Delaine's niece is having her engagement party at The Lady Goidwood Inn, the Garden Room, which used to be a greenhouse, roof suddenly caves in and Delaine's niece's fiance is stabbed and killed by a piece of glass. When a jewelry heist takes place at an event at the Heritage Society, Theodosia is convinced a cat burglar is targeting the Historic District of Charleston. How Theodosia and her friends uncover the burglar makes for a great story.

Shades of Earl Gray
Theodosia begins to think that a cat burglar is at work when Delaine Dish's niece's wedding ring disappears after the ceiling of the garden room crashes in and kills her fiancé. When the blue Kashmir sapphire necklace is stolen from the Heritage Society's traveling jewelry event. She asks Detective Tidwell for advice. She learns that there have been several other burglaries recently in the historic area. She and her friends set up a sting and do eventually catch the thief.I have some quibbles with the storyline. I feel that the author has a nasty habit of waiting until the last five pages and then pulling the burglar/murderer out of thin air. I do like the coziness of the setting, the tea facts, and historic details. The characters seem to be well fleshed out. Overall I would recommend the book.

What happened to kindle versions of books 4 through 12?
I just finished book three in this series and I reallly enjoy reading these books.I like the pace and the authors writing style. I enjoy the characters and the charm of Charleston. But i just looked for book four and it is not available on kindle. Neither are books 5 through 12.I am wondering what happened here. I wont read print copies because it is easier for me to see the print on the kindle. I really wanted to continue with this series, but am not skipping all the way to book 13. This is crazy!

Mixed feelings about the book
I have mixed feelings about the book. Yes, it's a cozy book; just right for a bit of light reading before going to bed, but as I move through each book in the series, I'm getting increasingly annoyed at Theo the Amateur Sleuth. She seems to operate without regard to official police process, which in real life could potentially jeopardize the police's work.On the other hand, I like Theo the Tea Proprietor and would love to "visit" her tea shop. I enjoy that she has a dog named Earl Gray, a type of tea. And I also like how the author ties each book's title to a type of tea and to an element of the book's plot. Some of the tea information seems a bit off, but I can be forgiving of that.On the other hand (my third hand?), I was appalled at how the author ended this story. I'm not talking about the "who" of the who-dun-it (which I guessed early on), but about where the story actually leaves us. It would never happen this way in real life. I'll say no more lest I spoil the story.I will keep reading the series for the time being, having already bought them all, but I do hope that Theo is less annoying.

MYSTERY and TEA -- What a combination!
Shades of Earl Grey (A Tea Shop Mystery) After reading the first book in this series, I immediately purchased ALL the published books in the series. After finishing one, I can't wait to read the next in the series. I love how Laura Childs keeps adding to each of the main characters personalities (and flaws) in each successive book. A GREAT READ!! PLUS if you love "teas" each book has the recipes for many of the dishes in the stories -- all easy to follow, make AND they really are delicious! The author also uses the CHARLESTON. NC area as a fantastic added dimension (plus for those of us NON-NATIVE Southerners a little historical view of the city and the low-country area which surrounds it.

Another tea shop sleuthing adventure
I really enjoy this series. I visited Charleston and love the intimate descriptions the author gives as Theodosia and her friends solve these mysteries. I wish the entire series was available on Kindle, I've gotten spoiled to just order it and its there.

Enjoyable character, but lots of history --perhaps more than you desire to learn
Great background on fun food and fantastic varieties of tea! Clever rabbit trails of possible suspects for the crime. Humorous dialog from a cross section of characters. Resolution to the problem came swiftly in the final chapter and then the book abruptly ended.

Good Series
This wasn't my favorite. I especially enjoyed the first in the series. It is my hope to return to the familiar characters I have grown to like.

Just my cup of tea!
Loved this book as much as the first in the series, Death by Darjeeling. The Tea Shop Mystery Series is just my cup of...! Laura Childs writes these gentle tales of mystery laced with tea and cakes. There seemed to be more detail of tea varieties and cakes in this book than in the last two, and I loved this detail and information, but I haven't done any scientific research into references! I simply enjoyed reading this relaxing sweet story. Theodosia the heroine of the series is as mischievous, kind and inquisitive as in the other books in the series. The added bonus was at the end where Laura Childs had included a host of recipes from the Indigo Tea Shop (I must try the pear and stilton tea sandwiches and the easy cream scones) and some wonderful teatime entertaining ideas. Something I myself did in my book The Old Rectory at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Old-Rectory-Escape-Country-Kitchen/dp/1909593753/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1366296230&sr=1-1&keywords=julia+ibbotsonThis was an improvement over the first book of the series where there was only one recipe. Perhaps Laura Childs was listening to her readers; I like to think so!
