I haven't read a book this good in a long time!
5 stars. No question. Loved it. Highly entertaining read!We waited a loooooong time for the big "getting together" but I couldn't complain too much. The author kept you from pulling your hair out by creating real characters with situations that, though not fully relatable, still seem real. Not contrived and overly dramatic.LOVED the sister relationship in here. Very loving and warm and funny. Real. I loved Ev too. Great dialogue, very well-edited! The quality of this book is super impressive even down to the cover art (love it!).Well done on making one of your main characters a woman of colour! I don't read nearly enough lesbian fiction with Asians or people with Asian ancestry as the MCs. I think they're even less represented in this genre than my own race, Black people. This book also has a main character that's Jewish and the author needs real kudos for intentionally going against that "WASP" lesbian romance formula so many of us are tired of.They don't delve deeply into the Asian-American or Jewish culture in here but they didn't have to. The characters were just really vividly drawn. Didn't want it to end...Great job. I can't wait for the next novel by this author!

Captivating, Somewhat Mindless Romance
Okay, so first things first: I started this before bed and I literally did not stop reading it until I finished it. I only stoped to sleep, and then woke up and went right back to it. So, no matter how critical I am below, clearly I liked it enough to not want to put it down.Overall, I really enjoyed this as a nice, slow-burn, modern sapphic romance. I would say it's well written in the way a good rom com is well written. Funny, charming, and titillating, but not a book that was necessarily enriching on a literary sense. Which is fine with me! This was a good, easy turn-your-brain-off kind of book that didn't make me constantly roll my eyes with contrived plot points or cheesy dialogue like true pulp romance tends to do.Aside from some quibbles with a few plot points, my main complaint about this book is that the love interests spend more time fighting than they do falling in love. Don't get me wrong, I love angsty yearning just as much as the next sapphic, but a lot of the conflict seemed to mostly be caused by misinterpretation and a lack of communication. And when we are hopping back and forth between the perspectives of the two protagonists, I just felt like I was reliving easy-to-solve conflicts twice. So by the time I got to the payoff, it was satisfying, yes, but I was also a bit exhausted.Overall, I think this is a nice, breezy sapphic romance that's great for anyone who loves a good slow-burn, friends to lovers plot. I had fun!

Slow burn perfection!!
Yep, this is the slowest slow-burn in the history of slow-burns! BUT---the best I've ever read! Jo and Emma--what a duo. Each attracted to the other but just can't let it show. Hollywood can be a very tough place to be famous and Jo was just that--a famous show runner and Emma her assistant. Oh, my, but what a winding road to happiness. I loved everything about this book. Easy to read, age gap, beautiful women both. The author just drew me in. Couldn't unclench the words from my brain and had to keep reading 'til the end. Then was sorry that it ended! Waiting patiently (or not so much) for Meryl's next book.

My Review
Photographers snapped a photo of Emma, Jo's assistant making her laugh on the red carpet, and the very next day they were being shipped as a couple. Jo is a celebrity actress now working behind the scenes as a show-runner. Jo is a private person who never gives the press any comments about her love life and wasn't going to start. She is a woman who's been in this business for a long time and as a Chinese American she wants her work to be respected by her peers in any lane she decides to take. She wants to challenge herself with this new project. She doesn't want her work to be overshadowed by scandal or rumors. Paparazzi started to follow them outside of work, co-workers were starting to treat them differently and they're was a leak within the production team giving media information. Emma is young, she worked her way from the props department to be Jo's assistant. She’s worked with her closely for 2 years now and also has dreams of her own. Jo and Emma began spending more time together as the launch of Jo's new film project approaches. Emma seemed to know her every need before Jo did. Jo, who most people know to be outwardly cold and aloof, opens up to Emma in ways neither expected. They began to think that maybe the rumors about them weren't so off base after all.My Pros:I have to start by saying I did enjoy reading this book. It was a quick and easy read for me. Simple to follow the story. I read it in one day.I enjoyed reading the internal POVs of the women. I like to read how someone is processing things and events happening to understand the character and their actions better. The conflicts that had to be overcome were written well and understandable to reality. I like the topics of conversation in this book as well.My Cons:The book is a slow burn, the slowest burn I've ever read. This is the reason for my rating. I'm a lover of not only good storytelling but of intimacy which doesn't always have to be sex but this book lacks it completely. I wish we couldn't gotten a little more affection between them. There wasn't any sexual tension to me. I understand the thin line of a coworker / kinda friend relationship and being the boss doesn't help when you want to provide a safe environment for your co-workers but it really felt like a very good friendship.I do recommend it as a summer or vacation quick read.

My favorite book in years
I didn't expect to fall in love with this story so easily! It's catchy from the very start, the characters are complex and well-written, the dialogues are so real, I felt like I was there witnessing real people express themselves. I can't even tell if I loved Emma more or Jo, or Avery, they're simply amazing! There's not a single dull moment in this story, which may why I loved it so much. Ordered the paperback after reading the ebook so now I can have it on my shelf of favorite books ever. Looking forward to reading more stories by Meryl Wilsner!

I read this book in one day.
I read this book in a day. And I've been left wanting more.It was so worth it, I didn't stop smiling the entire time. An amazing slow burn, where you don't feel like it's too long and dragged out, the characters are in-depth and well explored. A perfect mixture of romance, comedy and even some mystery.I always know when I've come across a spectacular read when I don't want the book to end. And this book was it for me. Emma and Jo are easy to love and root for, I hope to see them again in the future.

A wonderful sense of place
A great romance between believable characters that you can’t help but like. A not very tortuous rocky road to finding each other with roadblocks that are realistic misunderstandings and bad interpretations of silences, not ridiculous Drama. The love story made my heart happy but I also adored the sense of place. A lot of things are set in Hollywood, on tv sets or movie sets but this book really gave me a sense of what it’s like on a day to day basis, as a real workplace, not as some shiny glamourous place with beautiful people. Wonderfully three dimensional for both place and people. Highly recommend.
