George Saunders for all ages
If you love George Saunders’ other works, you’ll enjoy this children’s story, too. Why should grownups have all the fun?Saunders is a gifted and humane writer. Wish we had many more like him.

George Saunders & Lane Smith: Great Team!
I'm currently reading everything written by George Saunders. I don't know how I made it this far without stumbling on him at some point, but he's my most favorite recent discovery. I'm a musician. One of the signs of a great musician is an economy of motion. It is a pleasure to watch a genius player making the most complex musical ideas appear simple. Saunders is a genius writer, fully employing a beautiful economy of language. This whimsical tale is suitable for both adults and kids. As with some of his other writing, the theme ultimately focuses on kindness, but the story takes you on a snort-inducing ride before you get to the pay-pay-off. The illustrations by Lane Smith make the purchase of the hardcover version more than worth it.

Great Book for Children and Adults Alike
The Very Persistant Gappers of Frip is a brilliant book by George Saunders. Actually this is more of a children’s book, but is a book an adult can appreciate as well. The book is fabulously illustrated by Lane Smith. The illustrations are really spot on with the prose. A wonderful job by both author and illustrator. The story’s theme is the importance of helping others in need and the consequences of selfishness. This is a universal lesson needed by both children and adults. Saunders actually wrote a book about kindness? Yea!I won't delve into the plot as the story is so short and I do not want to spoil it, but I cannot say enough good things about this book. Not only is it a good story, but it teaches a good lesson as well.

Book 8, Seller 2
A friend lent me the Persistant Gappers of Frip. I read it, loved it and set about getting a copy to give to my Goddaughter. It's not an easy book to find, I found it used and listed in good condition from Used Bookstore here on Amazon. When it arrived, the binding was intact but not in great shape and more troubling was the large rubber stamped words inside the cover "ANOTHER QUALITY USED BOOK USED BOOKSTORE". I have no objection to receiving used books, but I feel cheap giving this as a gift with that stamp in it. I suppose I may have to find another copy. That giant rubber stamp is just rude. Use it for the packages, not the books.

Delightfully weird and thoughtfully funny
My 6 year old grandson enjoyed this book very much. It’s great to hear him giggle and laugh while we’re reading. Kudos George Sanders

for many ages
Got this for my husband to read to our toddler—they both enjoyed immensely, perhaps the elder even more than the younger of the two. Superb illustrations

Brilliant adult allegory masked as children's tale
Saunders' brilliant, hilarious adult allegory is masked as a children's tale but is really more of a profound critique of American social Darwinism and the false idea currently held by many rich and privileged that they are rich and privileged due to their own superiority, hard work, or God's election, and not to pure luck. The book is also a thoughtful, funny response to libertarian myths of radical individuality that currently infect American politics like those Gappers of Frip. Older children might enjoy the book as well. I could imagine teaching this book, with wonderful illustrations by Lane Smith, to intelligent ten year olds, but might also integrate the book into a high school English course.

I read this in one go. . .
I think my curiosity about this was piqued by seeing the front cover. And once I'd begun reading, I couldn't stop until the last page. It's a wonderful little fable crackling with gentle satire and it's also strange, definitely strange. The strangeness of the story is brought out and enhanced by Lane Smith's deeply odd illustrations. This is a book I think anyone with average reading skills could enjoy. I liked it so much I gave a copy to my brother who enjoyed HIS copy with his young son, who also found the whole thing most enjoyable. Brighten your day with a Frip !

not my cup of tea
This book is admired by some but my children didnt enjoy its weird whimsical style, and the book itself is badly produced - it has thick shiny paper but it feels poorly bound, and the text was smudged.

Three Stars
pleasant yarn and morality tale of sorts about working together and not being selfish

Brilliant - just brilliant
This is highly original and funny. The humour comes from the cuteness of the little gapper creatures and the breathtaking selfishness of the people who are trying not to be infested with them. I think my daughter loved this too but I love it so much myself that who cares?
